HI. anyone have any ideas where I could find a 87-90 2.2 liter turbo engine at? I would like one prettymuch lock, stock, and barrel ie. parts car/ wreck. I know they are supposed to be as common as a red light when you're doing 90+mph (< why I'm looking for parts) but I'm not having any luck. I'm interested in a 5 speed manual if it's a parts car. Thanks Jim

Hi, Thanks I'll give it a try. I don't think I have been there before. That's a pretty impressive line up you have with this engine!

Hi, I am looking for a complete set up. Including all the odds and ends. It can be a project motor but it must be complete, computers, sensors, harnesses, and down pipe. ie ready to put into a stripped car project. Thanks!

Weel I would guess as I'm not sure how to answer if I want the internals, that I would want a worked motor with the turbo? Here's the scoop to help. Bare painted frame and shell. Thanks Also I'm in the So. IN area around Louisville, KY.

do you want a worked motor built already or do you want the parts for the motor to apply yourself? hope that is clearer

Hmm. there sure is aaaaaaallllooooootttttttt of details to one of these setups!
If there is anyone on the forum that knows the ins and outs of this series motor. PLEASE oh Please help me with what is the best setup! I believe it is the turbo III mated with a A555 tranny. But my last engine was a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated bored demon. So there are so many aspects to this, I'm really getting confused. Also are all the years interchangeable, like is a 90 tIII motor with an 88 A555 tranny feasable. Thanks Jim

Turbo 3's are kinda finicky and unreliable. I'd go with a T2. Plus the $ factor plays a big role. You MIGHT find a good rebuildable T3 core engine for around $1K. Used running engines go for 2-3K. I can find used commonblock T2 2.2's for under $500 is running condition.
The best combo possible is an 89-up 2.2 commonblock T2 engine mated to an A568 transaxle. The 568 is the king transaxle, close second is the 555. The 523 is also very stout. I have the A520, pretty strong when the Chrome Moly transplate is added. Let me put it this way, I want to get 280 WHP and the only thing I'm worried about is the clutch holding up. The only weak transaxle is the A525.
What kind of car do you have? I can tell you the best combo for your car.

I couldn't agree more, except for the comment about the A-568 vs the A-555. Not all A-568s were the same. Later model year A-568s used on the Turbo I weren't as stout as the A-555. The only real difference between the A-555 and a good A-568 is that the 568 has better syncros and a different shift pattern. Those who like a notchier shift will prefer the A-555 over the mushy shift of the A-568. However, that can be cured with a set of "booger" bushings from FWD Performance.

That info helps alot in my search. I have not chose the vehicle yet but I am looking at the Daytona's due to their reduction possibilities. I have spoke to a few guys about thier car posted for sale. I am definately looking to run it as a super 60(which I'm still learning about) This is all just a hobby of the week type deal. I like to strip them naked and see what I need structurally and dismiss the rest and then start. I have really good friends that have a shop and allow me to mutalate anything till my hearts content and then I pay them to help me put it back together. If you read about the Fiat in my last post you should get an idea. They aren't the most race knowledgable guys but they know engines! Thanks !Jim

Hi, oops I forgot the info on the Fiat, 0-60 in 4.0+/-.1sec. 1/4 in the mid to low 10's. 185hp 160tq. 1700lbs. engine put together with 12 to 1 HC Pistons gapless rings. Valve train replaced with all titanium goodies, crank lightened, balanced, along with the flywheel all the pulleys. A Crane Cam Custom grind, Haltech complete ignition! WHOA what a DIFF! Complete Pacesetter exhaust. The body was re-enforced in some places and lightened in others. Finished with a set of 15" teamdynamics Race II wheels @12.8lbs each along with all the Brembo/ Koni/ Custom K&N you can shake a stick at.

The 568 was NEVER put on T1 cars, only T2-T4 (with the exception of 5 speed turbo minivans). 90-91's received a ''small spline'' 568 which can be conceived as not as strong as 92-up ''big spline'' 568's, but even the 555 was small spline and plenty stout when the Chrome Moly transplate is added. All 568's are stronger than the 555.
The ONLY 5 speed offered in 90-up T1 cars was the A523, same externally to the 568 only it doesn't have forged getrag gears.

Sounds like you'd have fun in a GLH-T or GLHS...
There are better options out there than the S60 package nowadays. Namely custom cals from either FWD-P or TurbosUnleashed, with hybrid turbos.
Yes yes I'm a hippocrit, I have an upgraded S60 turbo, but only because having a smaller turbo will keep me from going too nuts with this car...

Well, here's how things are most efficient-
Stock T2 garrett turbo-stock-250 WHP
Super 60 w/.63 turbine stage 1 wheel-250-300 WHP
Super 70 w.63 turbine stage 1 wheel- 275-325 WHP
'' '' stage 2 wheel- 300-350 WHP
Hybrid 50 trim TO4E w/.63 turbine stage 2-325-375 WHP
50 trim w/.63 stage 3 wheel- 350-400 WHP
57 trim w.63 stage 3 wheel- 400+ WHP
For example, if your goal is 300 WHP your best bet would be to go with a super 70, or else max out a super 60 but have no extra ''slack'' in case you want more HP later on...and trust me you always will want more.
I have a super 70, swapping to a .63 turbine (stage 1 wheel). I'm adding a ''G'' head, a forward motion TBI header, and 3'' exhaust. Hoping to crack 300 WHP at 22 PSI on pump gas.
As far as the super 60 package, yeah just forget it. It was only meant to be ''off road''. The only things good about the package is the turbo and injectors. Forget the cam and ECU, your car will run like crap. Get a custom cal from turbo's unleashed. I have one, it is awsome. My idle has never been smoother, even with a stock ECU! Can you argue with 22 inches of vacuum at idle??? LOL

No, I don't think the A-555 was used past 1989. I am pretty sure that you have an A-568, which is pretty much an A-555 with better syncros. If your reverse is down and to the right you have an A-568. If reverse is up and to the left you have an A-555.

Hey guys, Hmmm what to do? I went ahead and got one of each! An 89 Tona TII/ A555, modded like Gus's suggestion's, and a lightly wrecked in the front 93' IROC R/T- TIII/ A568 with 50Kmls. I definately like the TIII Better! I have the funds to do as I wish, but I'm having issues finding real specs on this setup! I've only found bits here and there? I've checked all the top forums, with no luck on a solid bit of info. anyone know of a book or site that Mopar may have? I have the 4th gen 2.2/2.5 mopar bible but it only cover the TII and before? Well it does give the valve info!?! But what about the block info? What to do with the pistons? rings? Crank? Is all this the same as the TII? I don't believe it is as it is supposed to be stronger Please let me know what you can Thanks, Jim

I guess you'd like the T3 better since it has 50 more horses!
Well I'll give you the skinny on the shortblock differences. The forged crank is extremely heavy, 13 pounds heavier than the forged T2 crank. The rods are standard commonblock rods, pistons are unique and forged. The T3 is the only turbo dodge to come with forged pistons. The block is also T3 specific but I cannot remember the differences there.
www.minimopar.net is also a good site.

I know you weren't talking to me but I thought I'd give some friendly advice. Ditch that super 60 ECU, your car will run like crap. THe S60 ECU never reads the O2 sensor and is really a race only ECU. I have a custom calibrated ECU from www.turbosunleashed.com and it is awsome, my car runs better than the stock ECU. The turbo and injectors are very good though, you will also need a 3 bar MAP sensor.
The neon head is a good idea however is a lot of work and pretty expensive.

Re-program, they can take either one but I would send the stocker and sell the mopar unit to get some $ back as it will be worth more than the stock ECU.
What do you mean how is it set up? How is it installed or what does it look like?
Here's a pic of what I have-
