Shelby turbo not boosting

I am buying a 1989 dodge daytona shelby with the turbo 2 engine. the car is fine except that turbo isnt making full boost, it used to go to 14-5 psi. My friend owns it now and he said that it just didnt make boost one day and its been like that since. I read on a web page that it just might be a bad wastegate. The turbo was fully taken apart inspected and cleaned last summer by a dodge dealer.

That's a damn nice car to pass up. Maybe Polygon can help you, he's got a LeBaron GTC which is similar, if not the same, motor and turbo as the Daytona.

Wastegate Actuator Rod night be disconnected or broken off from the lever on the Turbo, or possibly the Blow Off Valve might be shot and not allowing boost to build.

9 times out of 10 it is just that the wastegate arm fell off, i have found alot of turbo dodges fro cheap because of this reason- you keep quiet, pay the man, get around the corner, throw the arm back on, and bam your boostin like a mad man.
if you do buy it come on over to turbododge.com there are alot of guys doing wild things to these cars, even pushing them into 8 sec. 1/4 mile times

thanks guys, andget this the car only has a 130000 and its in really good shape, and im getting it for 500 bucks, but there is another problem the pop up headlights are not working. I pull the switch out and the dash lights come on but no head lights.

Another vote for the wastegate arm falling off.

ya i have a 90 shelby turbo 2.5 that i swapped the trans to manual - my waste gate acually got stuck open an was preventing it from spooling boost- it was cause that arm was gettin sloppy - so i would have to agreed with these guys - either the arm or the waste is being held open....
