How hot does the catalytic converter get?healer 10-17-2004, 05:49 PM Does anyone have any idea how hot the first (#1) catalytic converter gets? R.W.240 10-17-2004, 06:34 PM About as hot as your mom in a bikini!!!11!!1!one! haha you got served... GT500916 10-17-2004, 07:45 PM 35569 degrees... dont touch it after you come home from a drive... why u need to know? healer 10-17-2004, 07:50 PM I have a crack along the bead weld by the flange that meets the exhaust manifold. The whole converter is in real good shape so I am trying to avoid replacing it to save a few bucks (they are costly). Anyway....... I was thinking of using a cold weld patch for now......... it can take up to 600 degrees F. So all in all.......... thats why I needed to know. So if anyone can give a real answer.. shoot. Thanks. Chuki_breath 10-17-2004, 10:49 PM you mean theres more than one?????? hmmm not here phantomfe3 10-17-2004, 11:51 PM it will get more than 600*F the exhaust gasses leaving your engine are in the thousands degree range KenOhki2112 10-18-2004, 02:56 AM Don't expect said patch to last more than a few days. You can get a cheap highflow emissions leagal cat installed for less than $200-$300 I think. And yeah, there is only 1 catcon, after it you have a reasonator and then finaly your muffler. (factory) FDTT 10-18-2004, 03:50 AM Go to a wrecker and cut one off a car. Weld on done. :P Technicaly thats not legal but who will know right. billclinton 10-18-2004, 02:06 PM look on ebay for a high flow cat, they are cheap musicsurfman 10-18-2004, 02:23 PM The First Cat Is Part Of The Collector Pipe..... This Is Obviously A Obdii Car. Catalytice Converters Can Get In The 1800 Degree Range, Double To Almost Triple What The Standard Exhaust Gas Temps Are. And Exhaust Gases Are Under A Thousand Degree Unless Its Turbo Charged Or There Is Alot Of Restriction. My 350ci Sbc Exhaust Is 600 Degrees At The Tail Pipe. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
