98 5SFE rear O2 sensor question

When changing this sensor, does anyone know if the rubber gromet on the wiring has to be pulled through from the underside of the car toward the outside or from the outside of the car toward the inside? Just wondering on which side of the sensor I should attach a string or wire to make the job easier. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

The grommet is to be pulled from the outside of the car, toward you. It should pop out of the body and the electrical connector will fit out through the hole.

I bought the OEM Toyota part this morning and brought it over to a local muffler shop I know. I let him put it in for me with me supervising. He only charged me $30; probably the best $30 I ever spent. I usually like to do all my own work but working on my back trying to loosen the old one from underneath the center of the car and then feeding it through was more than I want to do right now. My time is very short right now and I wanted to get this done rather quickly. It is also raining a bit in the Chicago area today and more of the same is predicted for tomorrow. I didn't like the thought of driving around with the check engine light on. I was also fearful of driving around with an O2 sensor not working since the old default for these used to be a very rich mixture when they failed. I didn't want to shorten the life of the cat. Anyway, it's done.

Thanks again for your help.

Mike
