Hey guys...you've been right before so I'm looking for your help agian!

On my 87 Camry the TOP stop brake light won't come on. I've changed the fuses and the bulbs and still no luck. The bottom light on the harness works (constant light) but the TOP brake light doesn't...???

...Thanks in advance...

If your third brake light won't come on, you might want to check the electrical connections to both the bulb and the wiring harness to make sure that they aren't loose.

This is actually the main brake light. It has two lights on the harness. the bottom is the night lights, no brakes, and the top is the brake light itself.........

I had a similar problem. I fixed it by removing the wire which attaches the (I think black and white striped ) wire to the socket assembly. Mine did not have a lock washer under the screw and with time and vibration it would loosen up just enough to create a problem. It never got really loose but I found that the connection would get warm and it actually deformed the plastic due to the heat. I used a small file to clean off the part of the connector that the screw comes in contact with and put a lock washer under it. Problem went away. The light icon on the dash always seemed to come on after I had slammed the trunk lid (usually at night). But then the next morning when I had time to work on the problem everything worked because it had cooled down over night...
Good luck with your light.

check the ground as pk55 said, I have a 88, if you have an indicator on the dash that lights when a light is out, trace the light wire harness in the trunk, you will find a box (mine was yellow), consult a wiring diagram, jumper the brake light wire around the box, if it works the box is bad, it is a sensor box for the rear lights, it burns out componets inside from time to time
