Skyline Frame...Mediocrity 10-15-2004, 02:29 PM Does the Skyline share a frame with any other cars? Like the Inifiniti G35? EvoCrazy 10-15-2004, 02:33 PM The G35 is the Skyline. Which ones are you talking about? I dont know about the older ones, but the newer ones, like the G35, share its chassis with the 350Z. But I dont know about the older ones. VQuick 10-15-2004, 02:35 PM The current Skyline is based on the same chassis(FM platform) as the G35. They are even based on the same variant of the FM. Some of the main differences between the two cars are engine/transmission choices, badging and lhd vs rhd. Mediocrity 10-15-2004, 02:39 PM Well, let me extend my question... do the R32's share these same qualities? G35 coupe and 350z having the same frame? VQuick 10-15-2004, 04:15 PM No, the R32-R34 are not FM-based. The current V35 Skyline was the debut of the FM platform. There hasn't been a GT-R based on the FM yet. The G35 and Skyline sedans are the basic form of the FM. The G35 and Skyline Coupes use a wide-track version. The 350Z uses a short-wheelbase variant of the wide-track. Mediocrity 10-15-2004, 04:19 PM ok let me ask this... is there a car that shares a frame with the r32 gts-t? VQuick 10-15-2004, 04:56 PM I don't know. Maybe a Stagea, if there was one around back then. I'd very much doubt that any vehicles using the same chassis were sold in the US. Mediocrity 10-15-2004, 05:13 PM Nothing even remotely close? VQuick 10-15-2004, 07:59 PM No. The rwd Nissan cars that were in the US probably didn't share a chassis with the Skylines. The Z31 Nissan 300ZX and F31 Infiniti M30/Nissan Leopard, which used the same chassis. The Nissan 240SX was by itself, I think. The Infiniti Q45 was based on the Nissan Cima, and shared a chassis with the Nissan President, I think. The Z32 Nissan 300ZX and the Infiniti J30/Nissan Leopard were together, I think. The Infinti M45 is based on the Y43 Nissan Cedric/Gloria. Nothing in the US was connected to the Skyline, as far as chassis goes. If there was a connection, it wouldn't have been such a big deal to legalize Skylines. Mediocrity 10-15-2004, 08:40 PM Weh, I did some looking around, the closest thing I found was the s13 from here. Little tweaking and everything will be good to go. FerrariLvr 10-16-2004, 02:03 AM The GTRs are unibodies:) tazdev 10-16-2004, 07:23 PM No there is nothing close Mediocrity 10-17-2004, 02:12 PM s13 is close enough to suit me. nismo_power 10-17-2004, 02:18 PM but it doesnt matter because a GT-R is unibody....the frame is built into the car. you cant just get a chassis and expect to build a car off of it. Mediocrity 10-17-2004, 04:04 PM Who said anything about a GTR? Im not buying a GTR I cant AFFORD a gtr. Im buying a gtst. jmrev 10-18-2004, 07:29 PM well that is settled then, too bad for us in the US, never really getting nissans halo car until 07, cant wait to see how it is. nismo_power 10-18-2004, 07:32 PM im pretty sure they are all unibody but i might be wrong. either way, your in the US and GTS-T's cannot be brought in. Mediocrity 10-19-2004, 12:08 PM lol, ok nismo power, whatever you say ;) and it doesn't matter that they're all unibodys anyway. just need a usdm s13 and all will be good. just have to deal with customs when it comes in. and no, im not vin swapping. SkylineUSA 10-19-2004, 01:31 PM So, what are you getting at, Mediocrity? You have a R32 GTSt coming in? Do you plan on bypassed the federal regulations, which means it will not truely be road legal, or are you building a race only vehical? Either way, good luck on your project. Post some pics, when you start. jmrev 10-19-2004, 02:25 PM well legalizing the gts-t would be like legalizing a gts, by motorex. Correct me if im wrong :screwy: .................hey SKYLINEUSA.....good to se you again! :smokin: SkylineUSA 10-19-2004, 02:48 PM well legalizing the gts-t would be like legalizing a GTR:), by motorex. Correct me if im wrong :screwy: .................hey SKYLINEUSA.....good to se you again! :smokin: He knows that. I am back thanks to Tazdev:) Mediocrity 10-19-2004, 03:58 PM Here's what I'm gonna do when I can get my school loan paid off. I'm going to take out a loan and order one from batfa and ship it to LA. Gonna deal with customs, blah blah blah its my car im takin here sort of thing. We know some people (small town) and we're gonna get dealer/temp tags on it, gonna drive down there, pick it up and bring it out. Gonna find a burnt out s13 with a similar body shape (close enough for us to tweak it around, yes we know its unibody, dad used to work in a bodyshop) and we're gonna swap out everything we can from the skyline onto the s13 (Because it has a vin that we can use) and reg it as an s13 with a body kit. Technically, it's legal. Especially here where there are no yearly inspections. It'll essentially be an s13, but with all skyline parts that we can manage. I've got everything but the money. Including my ride down there. SkylineUSA 10-19-2004, 04:48 PM That is going to be a lot of work, too much work for me, for what you will be getting out of it. Why not just spend you money on a s13 straight up. The GTSt drive train is not that much better, let alone all that extra work for a GTSt underbody. I am not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to give you an honest opinion. Mediocrity 10-19-2004, 07:06 PM I know it's going to be a lot of work and some people won't think it's worth it... but labor's free, my father wants to work on something like this and it'll be fun to do. And why I'm doing it is because while I know the GTS-T and all that aren't that great... I've just always wanted a skyline since middle school. RHD and everything. I've just liked the styling and stigma that came with the car forever... so if I can find put in a good amount of effort instead of giving motorex a lot of money, I'm going to. GTES-t 10-19-2004, 08:57 PM Good luck with the project. Way to much work for me to consider. But I really wish you good luck picking it up. It can't leave the docks unless it's US legal (obviously not the case) or an RI picks it up. And you know what that means... Mediocrity 10-19-2004, 09:55 PM I know some dealers, and if I can clear the fact that I got it from customs, I can get dealer tags on it... or im just gonna tow it up here. Either way, im finding a way to get it here. RACER D12 10-20-2004, 05:05 PM I think once you get the skyline your going to find it hard to destroy it Mediocrity 10-20-2004, 05:13 PM Indeedy do, that's why I'm gonna take my sweet little time finding an s13 chassis. But if it means being able to drive it technically legal, I'll do it. Mediocrity 10-27-2004, 05:57 PM Update... I came into an offer for serious financial help (friend of mine really wants me to get this car) and he wants to have it by summer of 2005. Im gonna pay off my current loan by then (instead of in 2 years) and take out another one and get it in. More details as they come along :) InfestedShadow 10-30-2004, 01:14 AM Gtst? is that a cheaper version of the skyline? like the GTT, GTT are for R34 and Gtst for R32 and R33 ? that's confusing... SkylineUSA 10-30-2004, 04:57 AM yes InfestedShadow 10-30-2004, 10:00 AM and if the any difference with the frame ? I mean, gtst and gtt are exactly the same as GTRs, but just the engines are smaller DemoX 11-10-2004, 03:29 PM and if the any difference with the frame ? I mean, gtst and gtt are exactly the same as GTRs, but just the engines are smaller Actually!!! The GTsT and GTT has also softer suspension and are ONLY RWD instead of AWD (please add if there is any thing more) Cheers thegladhatter 11-11-2004, 03:30 AM SkylineUSA, your sig-pic is annoyingly huge.
