SLR AAL's

Just got the SLR AAL's. Since I broke my wrist, I am having the shop put them one for me. They asked me if the stock u-bolts were going to fit. I had no idea. So my question is, will I need to get new U-Bolt's. I tried to contact Spenc at SLR, but couldn't get ahold of anybody. The guy at the shop said if we need new U-bolts, they will cost around $50. This doesn't sound right to me.

Thanks.

I have heard that an AAL would require new ubolts but 50 is crazy I have heard thay are more like 12 bucks I would shop around at an offroad place and see if they will sell you some.

That didn't sound right to me also. :screwy: The place that is putting them on for me is an off-road shop. I found some posts in the forum after I posted this and I think Shud said about replacing them. But he has heard of people using the stock (I'm pretty sure it was him). The instructions say to use the OE ones, but I'm not to confident in them. I'm not even sure of which ones to get.

Well, if they say so go for it. The only thing that would keep the OE from working is if they are not long enough. I wouldn't worry about the strength of the oe ubolt the will hold, if they are of course long enough. Try calling SLR and ask for Spencer Jr., he seems to be most helpful. Is it the AAL or new spring pack?

It's the 3-pack AAl's.

You should use new U-bolts and nuts, but they aren't totally necessary. The factory U-bolts are excellent and I'm not sure what your concern is. Make sure you re-torque them after a week or two, as they will settle after initial installation.

The guy at the shop asked me if the U-bolts would have to be replaced. Since I never put AAL's on, I really didn't know for sure. But I did finally talk to Spensor and he told me the same thing you did ChuckH.

Thanks for your responses.

Well, I got it back yesterday and it looks great. The AAL's added about 2.25". Only thing was I told the guy at the shop to crank the torsion bar an inch and he cranked it like 1.5". With him cranking it that much, is it necessary to get new UCA's or will they be OK where they are??

Thanks.

Hard to say, depends on where your front end was crank-wise beforehand. Only way to know for sure is to have the alignment checked/done and see if it is or can be brought into spec at that height.

He aligned it also (forgot to mention that). It drive's good, except it pulls to the right. So I have to call him about that. Before he cranked them, I measured them. The right side was at 33.25 and the left side was around 34.5. Now, they are even.
