My dad's got a 4.3L v6 Silverado and there's a TransAm in my neghborhood which rumbles the whole neighborhood when he rolls through here. I'm going to get my dad's truck what should I do to make it loud ,glass pack, cherry bombs, exhaust or headers?

Do us all a favor and keep the six cylinder quiet.

V8 rumble = good sound
V6 rumble = a pissed off bumble bee

Well, you gotta take into consideration that the TransAm probably has a 5.7 (350) as opposed to your 4.3. If you want it loud, use glasspacks, if you want it to rumble, use flowmaster or some similar brand. Dont forget to get big tips as well.

Big tips and pipes are good. They give a deep grumble. Now if this were a V-8 I would suggest taking the muffler off and running straights from the cat back, however this is a 4.3L. These SOUND LIKE CRAP with no muffler. I would suggest getting a Flowmaster series 40, or a Magnaflow. Again, big tips and big pipes are good. My truck has 3" pipe from the manifold back, not converter, no muffler, true duals. I have 4" x 24" tips. IT IS LOUD AND LOW!!! But I have a 5.7 (SBC 350)

I m wondering if running these new engines with strieght pipes from cat back would cause the exuast valves to run hot and get fraged early. Someone i know did this and i wonder if anybody that works on these engines has an opinion... it does sound good though...Jj

I had a 96 1500 with the 4.3 liter V6, and I
installed the Gibson Split Rear Exhaust on there,
and it sounded GOOD, not loud, but just had a nice
sound. I got criticism as well when I ordered the
system, but after I got it home and installed it, all
the criticism was gone and I was getting compliments.
Now, this being a Silverado might be different. Cab
resonance is an issue, I dont know if it would be with
the V6 though.

P.S. You cant make it sound like a V8, but you CAN
make it sound GOOD.

does a v-6 have go potential? or would it just be easier to just swap a v-8 in it?

I had a 4.3 L in my Blazer. Through a K&N air kit in it and installed 2.5 inch exhaust and ran it through a Flowmaster Series 40 and it sounded great. The only complaint I had was over time it started to resonate really bad inside the cab. I then went to a Turbo muffler. No Name brand from the Exhaust shop but, it sounded just as good without the Resonance. I kept the Cat in it as it didn't seem to cause many problems. I assume that if the Cat did go I wouldn't have replaced just gone with straight pipe.
I agree with everybody else 2.5 inch pipe at least and nice tips. Just my :2cents: worth.
Cheers

Only example I saw for the 4.3L was someone running without a muffler.

theres always the option of getting some really good stereo equipment, setting it in the bed and playing a V-8 rumble when you drive past. I would go with mufflers, no cats, and bent out the side in the back so you can hear it yourself as you drive past cars and walls, etc.

Just put dual series 40 flowmasters on my 4.8L with 3" piping going out the rear, and it is VERY loud at low rpms, but at a high rev you can barely hear the exhaust. Definately sounds nice and loud....

Take the entire exhaust system off and put some stacks out your hood.
