Two Mufflers?

I have an 84 Eldorado Convt. biarittze and I recently replaced the shocks. I noticed that I have two mufflers :huh: on the car. One muffler is seated halfway in the middle and looks like it belongs. The second muffler is closer to the rear bumper and is smaller, round and long. What gives? The car has a singal exhust. Any info out there will be helpful. :)

Yup, it's a resonator; tends to remove certain frequencies at times they would 'resonate' and annoy.
