Post '96 Astro hard startingdrew300 10-13-2004, 12:11 PM I'll try again. I guess I didn't do this right the 1st time As a 2nd vechile, my '97 Astro will sit awhile better runs. It iwas always hard starting if it sits a week or so, but starts fine if I run it everyday. I read that the fuel pump will run only 2 seconds with the engine not running. (some sort of safety interlock). Now, I turn on the key, wait for the pump to stop, turn the key off, then on, wait for the pump, sometimes I do this a 3rd time. Then, when I try to start it, it starts fine. I have previously changed the fuel filter, which was partly plugged, but this didn't help the starting problem. Maybe this will help at least some of the hard starting ones. Now I trying to figure out if this a pump problem, or a regulator problem. teach1 10-13-2004, 03:06 PM I had the same problem and had it diagnoised as a pump problem. I was told that the pressure HAS to be 60 psi. By turning the key several times you eventually build up the needed pressure. The pump should also be pulling around 9 amps if it is running right. I had to get new pump--not too bad of job to do yourself if you're handy with tools. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
