96 3.3L developed a leaky water pump?jgionet 10-12-2004, 08:35 PM Hiya all, While I was replacing my spark plugs on my van yesterday (which I may add was a pain in the @$$.. previous owner NEVER had them replaced and the rear plugs are the worse to get at)... anyways.. I noticed a few drops of antifreeze (prestone) dripping from the water pump.. I checked the hose and it seemed fine.. and after wiping everything clean I could see that it seemed to be coming from between the pump and the engine block.. could this be an indication that the pump is going faulty or that the o-ring simply needs to be replaced? According to my chilton service book replacing a water pump on a 3.3L ain't too bad of a job... should I simply try replacing the 0-ring or change the entire pump while I'm there? I have no clue yet how much a new pump would cost.. thxs for the advise :) Bryan Eastham 10-13-2004, 02:23 PM I just did mine ('97 3.3) and it is a pretty easy staight forward job. I got an aftermarket pump and O ring with a lifetime warranty for about $30. jgionet 10-13-2004, 02:35 PM yeah I just called around and they are about $40 CAD.. I spoke to my bro-in-law who's a mechanic and he told me it was an easy job on the 3.3L. I'll be buying one today :) thxs for the info GTP Dad 10-13-2004, 07:36 PM The hardest part of changing the pump is getting those stupid hose clamps off. Replaced mine with stainless clamps and had no problems. Pump cost $21 at autozone a couple of years ago. yoji6365 11-29-2004, 11:40 AM Its also a good idea to check the condition of the serpentine belt since you have to take it off anyway. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
