94 Caravan liftgate open idiot light....grrrrrrGlade 10-11-2004, 08:15 PM HELP! My father-in-law used my caravan to tow a trailer...and banged it into the liftgate just below the keyhole. Now everytime you close the door....whether or not it locks...the idiot light shows the liftgate open... Now this wouldn't be a big problem in itself...except that the interior lights are effected....they stay on...making it impossible to see at night...unless you throw the dimmer all the way off...and you guessed it...now you have no panel lights. IS THERE A WAY TO DISABLE THE DANG SWITCH IN THE LIFTGATE TO MAKE THE THING THINK IT IS CLOSED ALL THE TIME? I have had the panel off and there is a small black box on the passenger side with half a dozen wires into it. also...on the bottom of the latch mechanism...there is some type of physical switch that makes contact when the latch is UNLOCKED. I have pulled that wire...(no effect) and have grounded it out...(still no effect.) HELP! jawss 01-20-2005, 06:51 PM When this happened to me with my Caravan, I needed to oil the back latch because it was sticking. If your back door was pushed in a little, then the latch should be checked. HiRez_L 01-21-2005, 04:15 PM He is right, get it checked, they have already had lots of problems with the hatches on Caravans coming open when they weren't damaged, driving with it damaged like that is just asking for trouble, especially if you ever have kids in there. HeadlessHorseman 01-22-2005, 09:09 AM Your tailgate ajar light can save your life if you pay attention to it. IF your tailgate IS ajar AND your tailgate seals are NOT properly contacting the entire perimeter of the coach in back, you run the very real risk of CO (Carbon Monoxide) poisoning/sickness/death. Exhaust gases swirl around in back of your Caravan even when you are driving it - those gases CAN enter the cabin and kill you. Remember... CO is an odorless, colorless gas and can render you unconcious BEFORE you know what hit you. Please think TWICE before you defeat this switch... it literally could be the difference between life and death... yours and everyone else on board! :eek7: rustypm 02-12-2005, 03:45 PM it could also be the bushing on the hatch latch. ours was bent causing the hatch to latch completely but the bushing got in the way of the sensor vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
