1996 lumina horn relaylkruse 10-11-2004, 04:03 PM My horn doesn't work, no power to the horns themselves. Horn fuse is OK. I want to test the horn relay, but don't know where it is. Also might be something wrong with the horn 'button' on the steering wheel. How do you get at the horn 'button' considering that it is covered by an air bag? I don't see any screws to take off to look inside. cadgear 10-11-2004, 04:52 PM The relay is in the left fuse compartment under the hood. The button itself is accessible by removing two screws behind the steering wheel (facing the dash). Be careful with the airbag though! lkruse 10-11-2004, 05:06 PM The relay is in the left fuse compartment under the hood. I am not sure I know what kinds of activities would 'set it off', other than some sort of impact. On the topic of the screws it seems like I was only able to find one hole on the back of the steering wheel. I will look again. jeffcoslacker 10-11-2004, 05:13 PM Actually, theoretically, you should be able to kick that airbag module around like a football without setting it off, a stray arc to the contacts(i.e. static) could do the trick, though. Don't put it down on the seat and slide it around on anything. Keep it away from anything that is moving air, or creating a charged field, and you should be alright. richtazz 10-11-2004, 05:24 PM refer to a Haynes repair manual, as it will tell you how to disable the airbag and save your melon. Try putting direct power to the horns to see if they operate, then track your wiring/relay problem. lkruse 10-11-2004, 05:24 PM thanks for the help, I will try the suggestions and see if I can figure it out. score 10-17-2004, 10:35 PM Just found that my no horn and intermiitant dash light outage problems were cause by a corroded common base plate joining the fuse posts for both the horn and lights and the positive remote battery post cable on the drivers side fuse box. Try removing fuse box and look underneath. To remove crimps I found I had to insert a mini screw driver through the top of the post between the metal and the plastic and pull the wire. I eventually just soldered in a jumper. If you have to remove the air bag, the two screws are torx 30 accessble from the back through recessed holes.(use extennsion bits". To get at the one on the left you need to torque the steering wheel counter clockwise to find the hole. Make sure to remove a battery post for safety. Everything about fixing these cars is a pain. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
