The Tranny on my truck started acting up. From a stop, and in drive, the engine will rev but the tranny won't shift out of 1st unless I let off on the gas...then it'll shift into the next gear. It only does it from 1st gear. Plenty of fluid, filter changed ~15K ago. Any Ideas?? Anybody had this problem?? Fixes??

How many miles? On another auto trans I had, a similar problem occurred at about 105K. Didn't want to go into 2nd. Put in a shift kit for the auto trans, the old spring was worn and like a wet noodle compared to the new one. Solved the problem. Wasn't a Dodge but hope that may help out.

Thanks for the reply. The trucks got 125K on it. I'm kind of a weekend mechanic -> capable of replacing the tranny but have never gone inside one other than to change the filter. I really don't want to replace this one either.

Welcome. I'd try a shift kit for it, may extend the time it takes till rebuild....takes an afternoon and has directions inside, did mine in the backyard.
Basically all you have to do is drop the pan and pull off the filter; then unbolt the valve body (if the design is the same, that is) and pull it off, making sure not to lose any check balls or anything. Instructions in the kit with diagrams usually, replace the worn parts and reassemble. Beats buying and putting in a new trans!

Thanks again. I'm gonna give that a shot...if it works I'm golden: if not, I guess I'll just have to go the more expensive route. Again, Thanks!

Sure thing, good luck and I'll be interested to see if that is a 100% fix.
