Hot Rod Contest (Reworked, rebuilt and redesigned!)

That's right!!!! It's back, and bigger than ever.....

Alrighty then, first a little history (for the newbs)

The hotrod contest was a massive contest I held last school year...And boy was it a great one.....I had entries frolm everyone. Toons, Zwaag, everyone....But lots of people who said they really wanted to do it never got a chance to entr it. So then, on top of that, I had sooooooo busy, that I had no time to post the results of the last contest. Then(!) when I finally did get some time, my Computer (the peice ofl crap that it was) got virus and we had to wipe the harddrives and flash the bios, and it still won't boot.....

So anyway, now I have the six million dollor hotrod contest to run (:P Yes, it has been rebuilt, much better, Because I had the technology:rofl:)

So here it goes.....*A deep breath*

The concept:
To draw up a hotrod of your wildest dreams to enter into competition with anyone from automotiveforums.com OR graphikdezigns.com....Yep.....

The rules:

1.This is a HOT ROD contest, meaning
A) No car over the year of 1960 can be entered
B) The car can be customoized anyway you like, as long as it...
C) Resembles the car that you have stated it is supposed to have started out from.....

2.Types of Rods
The following "Rods" will be excepted:
A) Hot Rods (Street driven style)
B) Rat Rods! Yes this year, I am excepting Rat rods, since they seem to be an AF favorite (Bugdet built street prowlers)
C)Trailer queens/street rods...*sigh* yes, there were people who wanted to do the wusy version of a 32 ford.....(Show driven, layers of polish and waxes....)
D)Lead Sleds...Yes, we are excepting the hard nose mercury coupes from 1949, etc....(Look in the description)
E) Finally, Drop Top, street cruisers....Yes, the cruise night favorite....A drop top always shows off a great deal of style where ever you pull up....

3.Styles of Drawing:
A)Cartoon
B)Line Drawing
C)Full realistic(Stuffbyalex)
D)Digitally...Yes, this year digital COLORING will be excepted. The drawing still has to be done by hand....

4.Due dates/Other notes
Due on January 1st 2005....
You may reenter your drawing from last (school) years contest.

5. Judging
This year, judging will be a 2 part event.
First, there will be a selected panel of Judges that will be asked to make a descision on their favourite, according to style, quality, vehicle preferance, etc....
(Contact me through PM or post here if you would like to be a judge, it will be a 3 to 5 person commity, but it will be selected by me, so don't worry about first come, first serve....
Also, have your request for judging in by Nov 1st.....
Second, public judging....A poll will be posted for the public AF users to judge and vote on their favorite.

The total of the votes received by the judges will account for 45%
The total of all the public votes will equal 45%
The other 10% will come from me....

Any questions you can post here or PM me.

Everyone is welcome to join....

Also, I would like to add this legend made by Kustm Ace....

Ok, here we go:

I can feel a flame-war coming on, so I'm gonna clear this up right now.

There are seven basic categories for old cars:

Classic-Stock, as it appeared in the showroom when it was new. Years don't really matter on this, except that it should be at least like 10 years old. The big thing is that its restored.

Hot Rod-Any car pre-muscle car era. A hot rod is not a trailer queen. They are built to be driven.

http://www.ckdeluxemag.com/showcase/admin/pics/post_477_955_thm.jpg

Street Rod-Same years as Hot Rod, but they are generally built to be shown. Often dripping in Billet, Street Rods are often very high dollar rods.

Rat Rods-My personal favorite, they are hot rods from the wrong side of the tracks. Usually very low-budget, just....badass cars.

Muscle-If you dont know a muscle car, well...here you go. Very simple to figure out: after 1964.

http://www.ckdeluxemag.com/showcase/admin/pics/post_873_2098_thm.jpg

Then of course, the Trailer Queens- I do not like trailer queens. These would include cars similar to what Boyd Coddington builds. Very, very high dollar. Often they are replica bodies. They are not built to be driven. They are show, period.

I was a little hesitant to put this in, but hey, why not?
Lowrider-Just like the name says, very low. Often with small rims with hundreds of gold or silver spokes pouring out. Can be any years.

Then of course you can combine man of these to get smaller, subcategories, like retro-rods, classic muscle, lead sleds, etc. But I wont get into those. I think these are the basics. So, thare ya go.

See how bored I am?? :p

HighOctaneNOSUser
10-11-2004, 08:35 AM
Yes you may enter more than once, but that doesn't mean all your entries will go into second stage judging....

Oh yeah, change of plans, for judging, I say that we have public judging first, elite judging second.....more fair...

Um, my concept Im thinking of falls into 2-3 categories...

Zwaag
10-11-2004, 10:40 AM
I'm in of course- so, can we draw a realistic ratrod? rust, multi-colored paint, and ect.?

Mshkttck
10-11-2004, 10:47 AM
...and can it be a composition, not just centered on the car?

HighOctaneNOSUser
10-11-2004, 01:27 PM
Yes, and yes...,you are both correct. Zwaag, it can be any style you like as long as it isn't completely digitally rendered. mshkttck, yes, you can make a composition out of it. Remember, this isn't just any normal contest....:P So yeah, a background, and the like, might help you win over the judges. Speaking of that, I have gotten a PM from Mike, for judging, and one spot has been filled. 4 left, people....

KustmAce
10-11-2004, 01:39 PM
I got an idea for voting! What about the Mods of AF get to vote on which they like best? All except for me and Mike of course.

To keep it fair, ya know?

And Im in, providing I dont incapacitate my hand again...

HighOctaneNOSUser
10-12-2004, 08:04 AM
Lol, alright you're in....Well, that might work, but I thought the artists could vote....

KustmAce
10-12-2004, 10:59 AM
I just dont think its a good idea to have a small group of the participants vote. Either make it a public poll, or a group of people who arent involved.

I have one question: Can we use any car made before 1960, or does it have to be an American car?
I've found some pics of old European cars that could make great hot rods in a book I have, but I don't know if I can use them.

HighOctaneNOSUser
10-12-2004, 06:35 PM
Yeah, go ahead...PS, ,post if you're in!

HighOctaneNOSUser

Nope, It doesn't have to be coloured. But you might earn extra marks with the public, and with me and the other "elite" judges. Positions are still open, btw...
