checking problem codes

Is there any way to check problem codes on a '98 3.8L Windstar? With my old car (an '88 Chrysler Dynasty) you could turn the igmition on and off three times and the check engine light would blink at you like morse code....then you could look up the codes and figure out what was wrong.

Any tips apreciated.

The least expensive one I know of is here: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=46030 There are more *deluxe* ($$$) models out there, but this one will retrieve the codes for you.
