Im pretty much clueless on the differences between a regular z31 and a z31 shiro. Other than the fact that they have body kits, turbos and were made in 88, i dont know much else. How many of them were made, and what are the big differences in them? Someone, educate me.

i was waiting for someone else to post because i wasnt sure. i think the shiro special was just a different trim. nothing different except for badging and paint.

Here you go cretins  :

Approximately 1,000 SE’s (Shiro Edition) were produced for U.S. sale.

Standard Shiro Features:

3-stage pearl white paint

Turbo

16” painted wheels

Recaro seats

No governor

Analog instruments

Sport suspension package

Viscous limited slip differential

5-speed.... and some other options too that I'm sure I forgot.

Good luck finding one under $4000! They are rare-rare-rare!

The real point is that even if you found one, its worth way more to keep it absolutely factory spec and it would be a shame to do anything to a rare edition. I'd leave this one for collectors, because I want to screw with my ride. :D

Yeah.... pretty much. It's nothing really special... I would just buy a regular ol' Z31 Turbo and use that extra $3000 for mods!

I'm pretty sure there were ~2,000 made. But yea...1,000...2,000...somewhere around there.

3-stage pearl white paint

My favorite...

Turbo

The best part.

Recaro seats

Worth a GOOD chunk of money by themselves. VERY hard to find...I'd love some for my car even though my car's interior is blue...I don't care. The Recaros are VERY comfortable and lighter than the regular power deals that came in Z31Ts. Seen them go for ~$500+ a pair on eBay...easy...and that's IF you can find them.

No governor

99% sure they do...the vast majority of newer cars in the US have governors.

Sport suspension package

Yup. The SS has the stiffest springs from the factory of any Z31. This is why, if you find an SS in a junk yard, I'll bet you $5 the springs are gone...if nothing else.

Viscous limited slip differential

Sorry...the SS has a clutch LSD like all 87-89 turbos did. What Nissan was thinking with the open diff in the first place is beyond me. I know the LSD affects handling some, but it CAN'T be that much...I hate being a "one wheel wonder"...

5-speed.... and some other options too that I'm sure I forgot.

Ya did good, via. You got the majority of it.

These cars were offered for one year and they came one way. That was it. They had the Pearl white paint, white wheels, lower front lip (not a "body kit"...:p), Recaro seats (with no power controls), mostly black interior, no digi climate control, no body sonic system (ala 84AE), turbo, no adj suspention (ala EVERY turbo Z31), no auto trans, no digi dash, clutch LSD, quite a stiff suspention, and...for some reason...I've only ever seen ONE that didn't have tinted windows...they didn't come with tint, but I guess it's an automatic thing or something. But...I must say...It does look great.

The SS is VERY rare. I saw one on Autotrader with ~6,000 miles on it. Needless to say, it was NOT cheap...I think they were asking around 15K for it. Not too bad if you think about it.

True...it is very collectable and worth a good piece of money if you can find a nice one, but you also have to think...these are the lightest, most performance oriented Z31 ever made...they make AWESOME platforms for mods. Check out the Z31.com "1/4 mile times" section...the best 2 or 3 times are...you guessed it...88SS'. They game with very few options to save weight and they are significantly lighter as a result.

All in all...I'd probably buy one of these cars if I found one in good condition before buying a 350Z, Z32TT, whatever. The SS is the first Z car that I remember really catching my eye...even though I didn't know what it was at the time.

Not too shabby for a guy who doesn't even own a Z31, huh? :p I do my homework! :iceslolan

ya know guys, i agree that it should be left for the collectors. But its so sharp...maybe ill save for a z32 na and just drive it around stock.

Ya did good, Via.

I'd be completely unable to fight the urge to mod the shit out of the SS...I don't think I'd have enough will to overpower the urge to mod...
