Hi. I owned a '98 Grand Am and wasn't very conscienscious about taking real good care of it... none-the-less I drove it for 115,000 miles before selling it and had no problems with it. I loved that car. I can't afford a new car but after selling my current car (PT Cruiser) I should be able to afford a used 2000-2002 Grand Am. I was hoping I could get some insight as to the reliablity of these model years and opinions.

anything that is commonly a problem with the 96-98 GAs can be said for the 99+ GAs

ga aren't really too high maintenence vehicles if driven respectfully. The major problem as i've found with most ga and otherwise pontiacs, are the computer systems. They have many problems which are unpreventable and almost always costly to fix. My grand prix had a problem with it dash/gauge control, none of it worked. My grand am, key pass lock keeps causing security alarms. They would be prefect cars if the electronics in them worked better.
