Howdy group. My 94 regal with 3100 won't start occasionally and gives me the clicking and eventually fires. To date, starter and solenoid have been replaced and i used the extra key in case the chip was bad and this worked for about 5 times then back to click. I have purchased the anti-theft-relay part number 12193601 from Buick but cannot locate it's whereabouts in the vehicle. The drawing at the dealer showed engine compartment but i couldn't find it. The drawing also says part of the I/P harness but don't know which one that is.
I searched the forum before my post and discovered all the electrical problems with my model, hence the user name. I also searched for the starter trouble and saw the posts for the key chip issue and ignition switch issues but would like to find the location of this relaY. Thanks in advance.

This week i have replaced both battery cables in a shotgun effort ( although the voltage seemed correct ) and still no results.
I also cleaned ( among others ) a large connection block on the passenger side firewall which did not resolve the problem.
Some previous owner also put an alarm system in this vehicle and removed it so this may be part of the issue but i am still seeking the anti-theft relay which i now believe may be way up under the dash. Trouble-shooting continues.

You may have already checked, but there are a few relays in the black box above the wheel well under the diagnal crossbeam (in my 96 Regal custom anyway) on the passenger side. There is a matching one above the battery, but if I remember right, it only has fuses.

Does it click all the time when this happens? Is it a rapidly repeating click? or a one time per key turn?

If it's a rapid click, it may be a bad connection on the starter cable itself. But since it's been replaced that's not likely. But it doesn't hurt to check. I'm assuming you have a good battery too. If it's a one time click and then lights go dim inside the car, then you have a power deliver issue, low or bad battery probably.

But it sounds like your on the right path. Slowly follow the starter wireing system and you may yet find something out of wack. Good luck and post when you found it.

I'm a big fan of replacing the simple things first. It's usually not that much mulah and there is less cursing from me too! :p

My car started the key turn and NOTHING issue. It's annoying at best. But litteraly, NOTHING happens. Good power, no dim lights, no response from the starter. I'm betting it has to do with the key-chip/broken wire thing others mentioned. I'll get that fixed when it pisses me off enough and I have the money saved.
