sounds like it's a pinion seal leak. normal on alot of cars, but you better check the rear end fuild through the plug in the side. stick your little finger in and see if you can touch the fluid if not add some.

Thats what I was thinking, I wasn't sure, not a bad thing but bad enough if it was any worse!

Try the Lucas oil additive that stops leaks like that.

Check your diff fluid and top it off with the lucas.

If it is the pinion seal, it is not difficult, just hard if you don't have the right tools.

The drive shaft needs to be dropped. Then you need an Air gun with the proper socket to remove the yoke. Once the yoke is off, pry the seal out with two screwdrivers. There may be shim washers on the shaft, just be sure you replace them when reinstalling. After the old seal is removed, find a socket, since I am sure you do not have any seal drivers, that is as large enough to cover the seal without hanging over the edge. Drive the seal in until it seats. Put the yoke back on, drive the nut up and reinstall your driveshaft. If you have the air gun and a lift, the job shouldn't be more than 30 minutes.

Remember to check your fluid level and your good to go.

Shouldn't the diff oil be drained for this?

I would, and replace the gear oil with synthetic.

If you replace the seal, go with synthetic 80w90 gear oil.

I have never had to drain the differential, but then again, I have done them on a lift. If you run the back of the car up on ramps, then yes, you better drain it. Or at least put a catch pan under it.
