91 4 cyl. cat retrofit options & locations

Hi-
After pricing the oem `wide mouth' cats ($3-400) that bolt onto exhaust mani, I saw a thread about leaving it in place and installing an aftermarket 1 from JCWhitney ($60-80) lower on the pipe, avoiding the headaches @ oem cat.
Beyond taking precautions to put a good insulated heat shield above
cat and measuring well to put it in, does anyone have any ideas or tips
from their own retrofit efforts?
I'm also posting some threads on other issues, but will leave them for their own viewing.
