improvement

i have a 84 318i and i no they are slow and not much can be done to change that. but im wondering if anyone would have simple and or cheap suggestions for it such as cams or something?

The 1.8 M10 is not a good choice for performance.

The fact it is an e30 body does allow a few things.

Find the ratio of the differential, it is on a tag on the aft face of the differential. Going from a 4.11 to 1 ratio to a 4.56 to 1 is the best pop possible.

Putting smaller diameter tires will also move the torque range lower and make the car faster.

Now for the best deal to make the car faster, remove weight.

Every 100 lbs removed is equal to a 10 hp pop.

Remove the spare tire, air conditioner, powersteering pump, back seat, carpeting, passenger seat, catalyst if you can, or even consider removing those diving board bumpers and the shocks that support them.
