Engine trouble code 43

Just yesterday out of nowhere going highway speed car fully warmed up it started acting like it was either missing or getting no fuel. car started slowing down still running but very little response from the gas pedal then it went back to normal mostly and then the check engine light came on. The car never idled any different nothing else except a couple miles or so from the house when I hit the highway, it will start this routine.Should I start with the EGR first or O2 sensor or are there any other ideas anyone has?
The other problem is a weird one unrelated to this one. It seems like every other time you step on the brake pedal it goes almost to the floor before you get any brakes, the next time it's fine. Can't find any leaks evident, brake fluid doesn't seem to be getting ate up, bled all the wheels, no idea what that one could be. One other thing it does it whether or not the engine is running...
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

The code 43 problem is possibly an O2 sensor problem, not an EGR problem. First thing to do is reset the ECU by removing the backup fuse in the main fuse box under the hood. After 10 seconds, reinsert and start the engine. If the check engine light does not come on, it was an intermittant glich. If it reappears, an O2 sensor will cost you about $60.00. After you replace each part, reset the ECU by removing the fuse.

The second problem, if you have rear drum brakes could be that the adjuster is not keeping the brake shoes close to the drum or it could be a master cylinder which can be rebuilt.

even though it only comes on after driving? I just wondered about the egr thing since it seemed it could be related... Once your driving it does fine and then suddenly just falls on it's face like it's getting no fuel, or has no spark, slows down and just when you think you have to find somewhere to pull over it kinda pops and sputters and comes back on, the engine light comes on after a few seconds and everything works fine as long as you keep driving, if you shut it off it still takes about the same amount of time for it to start the same process again. but I'm with you - Tommorow I'm checking the O2 sensor and seeing if that's the problem thanks for your help... I'll update this when I get done checking it!

The EGR valve is there to control NO emissions. If the valve opens at idle, like forced by an outside vaccum source, the engine should stall However, if trhe engine is running about 2000 RPM the valve opening will have minimal effect other then to reduce NO. If it is stuck open, the car will have a rough idle or will stall.

tested the oxygen sensor today and it failed but interestingly enough before I had a chance to change it I ended up with 3 codes total: 41, 43, and 1. taking it out for a test drive now! be back shortly with the verdict.

Nothing weird about THAT one, man --- it's the master cylinder. That's EXACTLY how it goes out.

Oxygen sensor was the problem!!! The guy at the auto parts store told me I was wasting my money it was a fuel system problem, but it just seemed to be about the same time the car reached operating system temp everytime - to much of a coincidence... As far as the brakes go, I wasn't exactly sure never had a M.C. go out. I figured you would hear some type of squish sound or something though with no pressure, but I guess not thanks everybody!
