Wow! I've never seen this one before. Today my front wipers were running on intermitant and I noticed they were running like normal. So I went to put them back on intermitant and they were set on intermitant! So I decided to turn them off. They won't turn off!

After I shut down the engine and started up again the wipers were in the off position and then they just start running after about 5 minutes or so. I tried switching the wiper switch to all different positions and they only have 3 speeds, on, fast and faster! Now I feel like an idiot driving down the road with my wipers running all of the time :?)

Has anyone ever heard of this before? Any ideas what is causing this and how do I fix it?

Thank's,
Feeling pretty stupid...

Wow! I didn't know that if a switch quit working it would run in the off position, but that is what I discovered.

Here is the fix if this ever happens to you:

The part that failed was the Combination Washer/Wiper/Turn Signal/Dimmer switch. This part runs about $50.00 and is available at any chain discount parts store. If you know how to put it in, it will take about 15 minutes or so to fix. Here is the complete fix for your bad switch:

Tools needed: #20 tamper resistant star driver, 6mm open end wrench or small crescent wrench and a 1/4 inch socket or nut driver.

Steps for removal:

1) Lower the steering wheel to the bottom most position and then using the 6mm wrench remove the tilt steering wheel lever.

2) Using the star driver remove the 3 screws on the underneath side of the steering column cover.

3) Using the star driver remove the 2 screws (top and bottom) that hold the Combination Switch to the steering wheel column. The Combination Switch will easily lift off the steering wheel column.

4) Using the 1/4 inch socket unscrew the bolt that attaches the electrical connections box. Note that this bolt cannot be completely removed and as you loosen it the connection will gradually come apart, you do not have to pull it apart.

Steps for reassembly:

Simply follow the above steps in reverse. Note: You may want to test the new Combination Switch to verify that everything works before you replace the steering column covers. This can save you some time if the new part is defective. You'd have to be dumber than a rock to not be able to fix this yourself!
