MasterPull (winch line)rhombus 06-03-2001, 03:24 AM MasterPull (http://www.masterpull.com) I'm very happy with the winch line that I puchase from them. I called for the order (since I'm in Canada) and they were great on the phone. It is a little pricey but the safety and weight saving was worth the extra cost. ScottG 06-05-2001, 08:59 PM I read a post (I think it was yours) saying that there was an issue concerning the winch being able to properly displace heat with the MasterPull line. Do you know if this is a problem with the MasterPull line? rhombus 06-05-2001, 10:40 PM It was a problem with Warn winches. On the Warn site they said that they do not recommend synthetic lines. I emailed to see why and this was the answer that I got: <snip> Warn does not recommend the nylon rope because our winches generate a lot of heat during a pull. The nylon rope does not let the heat escape like wire rope does through the drum. Without letting heat dissipate, the winch can overheat very quickly and burn up and also possibly melt the nylon rope. </snip> I then called the guys at Masterpull and wanted to get their feedback. They believe that most problems with winch failure is caused by user error, using the winch the wrong way or stressing the motor to much. They also told me that their line in going to be mandatory at Rock Crawling competitions soon. So that makes me think that Warn does not want to recommend something that they have not developed or tested (cover themselves). For me I just try and use a snatch block most of the time. This has a few benefits:
Less stress on the motor Less line on the winch (should be cooler) More pulling power
I have been using the line a fair bit lately and it is great to work with and the safety factor is worth it for me. I'm willing to take the risk of frying the motor not to put somebody in the line of fire of a wire line with a few 1000 lbs of force behind it. Sc00ter 10-30-2001, 01:52 AM Have you had a problem with the masterpull line slipping underneath the top layer on a hard pull? The stuff is so slick that it seems to just ooze inbetween the wraps. I have tensioned the line quite tight and it seems to be no help. Any thoughts on this? scoot vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
