Thinking about doing a rebuild...DUlrich1227 10-01-2004, 09:23 AM I have 96 JGC 6cyl 4.0 laredo @ 124,000 miles .. I am thinking about doing an engine rebuild and interior but not sure where the heck to begin any suggestions , web links anything would be apprectiated.. I have had some odd problems with car errratic oil pressure ... needs a fuel pump that kind of stuff ( i have posted before ) I have some extra money so figured i mine as well do some kind of rebuild... want a little performance and another 100,000 miles :) PLEASE ANY TIPS / TRICKS / PARTS / PICS / WEB LINKS WOULD BE GREAT ! Need a good push in the right direction ... also anyone in s. fla ? David ChadEbert 10-02-2004, 04:54 AM you're rebuilding a 6 with that low of mileage? Seems odd, I got 297,000 out of my last 6. is it really worth tearing down? Thats a big job. DUlrich1227 10-02-2004, 07:48 AM well i guess i am not to sure where to begin than.... I want to get a little more perfroamance out of it... I have an odd oil pressure thing going on... - whn the engine heats up afer (after driving for @ 20-30 min ) at idle the pressrue will drop if i hit the gas it will go back up The enginge sounds " loose" I heare a lot of tapping / rattling going on inside... --thats the only way i can describe it. So i guees i am unsure of exactly what i want to do or where to start.... ChadEbert 10-02-2004, 09:28 AM When the engine heats up, the oil pressure will do that. When you are at idle, there's little pressure, when you accelerate, you are forcing oil thru so of course the pressure is going to increase. What is the pressure "dropping" to and when you are accelerating, what is it at then? Sounds relatively normal to me. The tapping/rattling inside the engine could be lifters hanging up, might just want to have a mechanic take a peek at it. But to rebuild an I-6 at 124K is unheard of unless the thing has been beaten to a pulp and not taken care of. DUlrich1227 10-02-2004, 11:14 AM When the engine heats up, the oil pressure will do that. Is the crankcase full? Might be an oil pump issue or a sensor switch. Again, if you have enough money for a rebuild, you have enough to take it to a mechanic and have these few issues resolved. dksob81 10-02-2004, 12:24 PM yea it shouldbn't get that low, the tapping ur hearing, it is b/c your not getting enough oil to the Lifters, try replacing the Oil pick up screen on the oil pump, or cleaning it out. this will help, it could also be the oil pump going bad and not pumping enough oil.. try to clean the Screen 1st or put a new one on, if that don't help u may want to get a new Oil Pump.
