Hello Peoples

I'm new. I have a question and would like some help.

It seems that everyone is always on the search for more "Power", I mean getting 550hp out of a vg30det motor ain't exactly easy but, neither is a motor swap. I would like to know if anyone have swaped in a sr20det motor into thier Z32's with success and how much of a differance it's made to have handling of the car after swaping in a lighter motor? I've seen SR20's make 400hp all day long with stock bottom ends.

If you havn't guessed yet... I'm considering yanking my V6 for the I4 but I'd like to know the pros and cons of doing so..

Thanks.

WTF? Obviously you know nothing of your suppossed car and engine, sir! Firstly: It's VG30DETT not VG30DET!!! Meaning there are two turbos!!!!! "Ain't exactly easy getting 550HP out of a VG"???? As oppossed to an SR20DET? Once again: WTF??? SR's are not the magical motors to swap into any car that you have read about and probably just recently heard of!!! Forget about what those bandwagon Magazines have told you! The VG is capable of gobs of power and blows the SR away!

400hp on a VG = Intake, exhaust and ECU, can be as cheap as $1500 or less. Z1 Motorsports sells this upgrades a package for $1100.

Anyway, the weight loss of a SR swap would utterly pale in comparison to the power loss all accross the rpm range that an SR swap would bring. I would pretty much can this idea idea. For what you would spend just getting the less powerful motor in the car, you could probably get your 550hp.

If you aren't interested in looking around for a lot parts, Z1 Motorsports also has further upgrade packages. They have one for 550rwhp in fact. You have to have the Basic upgrade package listed above but for the 1100 the basic costs and the $5250 of the aforementitioned package you get 550rwhp, something I not only doubt you'll ever get out of a even remotely streetable SR engine but for a lot less.

Yeah just 'cus some idiot put an SR in his Z32 for drift does not make it any greater! Get rid of that mentality!

1via, calm the hell down.

You have to remember its a ****ed up world out there where people think Civics are cool and having a body kit makes your car faster.

Havok, don't take 1via too seriously, hes in serious boost envy denial. Anyway, whatever you may have heard from anyone else, VGs are utterly badass motors that can put just about everything else to shame. Welcome to the world of the Z, where you don't have to swap just about the entire car for aftermarket parts because your Z was actually designed to be a sports car. :D

Yea George easy does it bud :D

As for this question... What... The... Hell...

I agree with 1via and broke on this one. I cant say anything that hasnt already been said.

Go VG30DETT dude... SR20 is no stronger, easily boosted, or more affordable.

So why do it? To be unique? Um... No.

Thanks fellas

No doubt you guys are right in what you're telling me. The reason for my question in the first place was based on creating a better balanced car, not so much on making more hp. The VG30DETT(thank you 1viadrft for correcting me) is like 250+ lbs heavier than the SR20 making the car pretty nose heavy. And YES the Z is very front end HEAVY. I understand that the swap would be somewhat more costly(I think) but, I can find VG30's on ebay and other sites all day long selling for about $3,000. I figured I could sell mine and recoupe some of the loss from buying a red top SR20 for about $2000-$2500 with ecu. Am I wrong? :screwy:
Truth be told... Thats why I asked the question in the first place. I wanted to get opinions from others. I do know a little something about MY car as I've already pulled the motor once since I've owned her. IT AIN'T EASY. The cramped engine bay makes even the simplest of upkeeps and upgrades takes twice as long. Like upgrading fuel injectors. If any of you have had to perform this duty then you know what I'm talking about. Tell me... Have any of you attempted to change a engine knock sensor lately? Take my word for it... It Sucks!!! :iceslolan

Don't get me wrong... I love my Z. So engine swaping is stupid idea, I'm now convinced of that..(sorta) Thank you all...
Can someone tell me how I can cut 250+lbs of fat off my lady(fairlady) or if Atkins have a programs for cars? :iceslolan

The major weight issue on the Z32 is in the interiour of the car. If you have the common leather and power options then theres your 250lbs.

That with sound dampining material, and other odds and ends. You may also look at SPL(cant remember right now?) suspension up grades, front and rear. THe Z32 has a NASTY rear wheel hop, this can be tuned out with the right suspension parts. And actualy you can also shave weight off of the car with these parts too, so you kill two birds 1 stone. The Z32 is a heavy car, but it was built to be in the class with the Supra, Mustang, F-body Camaro/Firebird/Transam. It was built to be a "Japanese" pony car, a true sports car. Not like the S13,14,15 which were built to be entry level family sport sedans. You also have to remember that the Z32 is, nore was it designed to be drifted, not a popular in Nippon for that purpose, it was a track star, much like the NSX, it can be done, its just a matter of skill. As the "Drift king" says "A good drifter can drift any(RWD) car properly with the right amount of practice."

And yes I have the Drift Bible, even though I have no goal of picking up drifting again. Did it before it was popular in the US and kinda grew out of it. My first "Drift" vehicle was a '89 Ford Ranger that had been lowered, and had a LSD Rear diff from ford racing. I was slidding sidways in 93-99 on the downhills of South Eastern WV. Now I am just TO OLD for all that. More fun to keep the cars tires stuck to the road, and cheaper too. :)

Dude you'll need more to swap an entire new powertrain than the engine and ECU... A lot more.

In order to do the SR20DET into a Zed32... You would have to custom fabricate the mounts, for engine, transmission etc etc. A LOT of custom pipping for boost hosing, exhaust, and things of that nature.

But with the VG30DETT swap... Its a direct drop in... So why would you go through the trouble to get an under powered engine in a heavy ass car?

Makes no sense...

The balance on a Z32 two seater is somewhere in the range of 52/48, 51/49 or there abouts. Its not like some crazy 67/33 or anything. Its very well balanced from the factory. If you want to cut some weight and don't mind ditching the heavy leather then that will cut plenty there. Personally, with about 500-550rwhp, I'll keep my leather :D

can a vg30det fit in a pathfinder

Given enough money, anything is possible.

And according to here (http://www.freshalloy.com/site/features/tech/engines/home.shtml) the Pathfinder came with a VG engine so it would simply be a matter of space to put the turbos in as well as splicing in all the needed equipment to run them (ECU, larger injectors, boost piping etc). As far as swaps go it would probably be fairly smooth.

Also, it is considered good conduct to not pull up threads from 5 months ago. As a general rule of thumb, if it's not on the first page just make another thread.

Valid question... But please dont pull up old threads, as Broke said.

Next time, just start a new thread :)
