Curious when you say it does the skipping/clunking/binding after warm-up. How warm does it have to get? After how many minutes of driving and at what speed?

I was just getting ready to post another question re: this because my '95 will only do it SOMETIMES--it has to be run pretty hard before it will start binding. I've wondered if it's something that HAS to be fixed right now ($$$ is way tight) and if it will get progressively worse.

Since I'm still dealing with a possible limited warranty fix (the place I bought it from will probably split the cost) it's to my advantage to have it taken care of now--except for the money involved. :disappoin

The best price I've seen on a rebuilt TC is from Rockland Gear (recommended in this forum): http://www.rsgear.com/about.html

My Jeep is currently in the shop--AGAIN! When the shift detent recall was taken care of, they forgot to hook up the lights in the gear shift indicator. Since it was over there again, I asked if they ever just replaced VCs rather than replacing the whole transfer case and they said they would only replace TCs and not rebuild. This is an official Jeep dealership, BTW. I guess there are some shop mechanics out there who WILL just replace the VC but I haven't located one in my area yet.

Hope your situation works out well!

Sounds high for a VC replacment. But any thing at the Dealer is high. Ive seen them listed on E- Bay for 400 t0 450. That is if you can do it your self. There have been other posts here that did there own. Hope this Helps.

yea I would look at another shop, for a estimate, dealers are always more expensive then other machanics. it is not very hard to do it yourself if u know ur way around a toolbox and are willing to do it yourself

My dealer wanted 1200. But it includes all new seals and o-rings. Sounds pretty thorough. Haven't decided yet if it's worth the peace of mind that dealer did it and basically rebuilt it or not.
