2JZ or 1JZ for mkIII?7M > V8 09-27-2004, 02:05 PM If you were to junk your 7M for better tech which would you choose? Why would you go through the trouble of waiting forever for a 1JZ when you can swap a 2JZ that you got from a wrecked car here in the US? Is it because you have to have a crossmember made for the 2JZ? Or is the 2JZ swap as simple as custom engine mounts? Personally if i went as far a swap for performance I would choose the 2JZ, but I could have a very clouded view of whats involved with the swap for each. How much trouble is it to swap in a 2JZ? I've never seen a conversion kit. Why don't more people do this? Is it because of the expense of the engine and ambition to have the newer chassis? projectsupramk3 09-27-2004, 03:28 PM The 1jz swap is much easier comparitively, everything is bolt-in with the exception of alittle hammering to get the rear turbo inlet to not hit the firewall. There is virtually no wait time for JZA70 halfcuts, an importer 15 minutes from my house has one, jarco has three manual halfcuts I believe also for slightly more. 2jz-gte engine/trans sets only are around $3K and halfcuts can go up to $6K. With a 1jz-gte swap you only need to lenghten the wireing harness and get a new LHD 2jz PS hose, it's bolt-in assuming you have an 89+ subframe. The 2jz is going to take alot of wiring to get the stock ECU to work, or you could go standalone, either way it's far from plug and play. There is a third option if you have a 2jz block lying around or a blown 1jz bottom end, 1.5jz, it's not worth going out and buying both engines to make one, but it is an option if you already have a 1jz installed and broken since Toyota still carries brand new 2jz shortblocks. The reason not many do a 2jz swap is simply the effort for the gains, sure you can get four digits from a 2jz but who needs that much unless its only for bragging rights. Most everyone will be more than pleased with what the 1jz has to offer reliably for the effort and money it takes to install it. driftjutsu 10-28-2004, 11:43 PM if your looking for a 1jz u can get a great deal from this company called K.watanabe corp, they have all kinds of used and new engines and there all shipped direct from japan and they ship to all states. they are based out of southern cali, where i stay, their web address is www.kwcengine.com check em out cause i went through them for my 1jz swap and they were reasonable as hell vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
