well as ery1 knows having a v6 SUX ASS! people overestimate your car alot thinking its the kind og mustang that they have in movies n shit. so in a lil while i was thinking of buying a saleen or a cobra, i jus wanna know what you's ppls think about each, n which is better in overall performance?and the year would b a 2003 of either...thanX

i dont neccesarily like the saleen or roush mustangs...i mean they are fun to look at and they are quick as shiot but there is no originality...they are all the same. i like the thought of building my own car the way i want to w/ teh performance parts that i have bought and maybe one in the world that is exactly like it. i dunno im not bashing roush/saleen they are awesome cars...but if i even had the money to think about getting either, ide def. have to get either an old fox or an sn94 or 95 and build the shit out of it. :evillol:

so how much faster is the saleen then the cobra, or is it?

i like saleen's, but (maybe because i don't know much about the saleen) i'm afraid of cobra's

Saleen= Horsepower375 hp @ 5800 RPMTorque415 ft.-lb. @ 3500 1/4 MILE 0-60 MPHSLALOMBRAKINGRESALEWARRANTYSUGGESTEDMODELSECOND/MHPSECONDMPH60-0 MPH, FTVALUEMOS./MILESRETAILSaleen S281 Coupe14.0*/99.05.167.2109HIGH36/36,000$36,629 Saleen S281 Supercharged Coupe13.0*/108.04.768.5109HIGH36/36,000$42,322 Corba Horsepower:390 hp @ 6,000 rpmTorque:390 lb.-ft. @ 3,500 rpm I assuming u are chossing the supercharged model.
They are both amazing cars and look amazing. the corba has more hp but saleen has more tourqe. The saleen will pry out handle the corba and has a more custom car apperance and interior to it. U are going to pry pay more for the saleen then u will the corba. The saleen are harder to find but i believe they will most likly be in better condition then the corba. If money was no object then i would personaly buy the saleen sense the bodykit is beautiful, they sound amazing just as powerful, handle better and u can say u own a saleen. The resale value is also higher but i really dont care to much about that. I dont think u will regert either choice both are amazing cars. o i just noticed something. The saleen is a 2valve 4.6 liter and the corba is a 4v.

This is what I found on the saleen:

Saleen S281 4.6L 2V producing 445 Horsepower and 450 ft lbs. torque
0-60: 4.61 sec.
1/4 Mile: 12.94@111.46
60-0: 126ft.
Slalom: 68.87
Top Speed Around 185 mph

However it is taged with a price of 61,120.00 for the coupe.

A cobra would be alot better if you want to put money into it. With the money you spent on the saleen, you could buy a cobra and ALOT of parts for the car to outpass the saleen. However some do not want to deal with the hassle of building a car (I find it to be the fun part) so they want an already fast stock car. In that case, the saleen is your best shot.

[If you hate chevy do NOT read]
Also (Please fellow stang forum regulars dont flame me for this) you might want to check out the c6 vette. 400 Hp car, hits 12s stock.

I'd go for the Cobra it's faster and less pricey.

Do they still make S-351s? I'd go with that myself, but I don't know prices or performance figures. I've heard those things are ungodly fast and quick though.

As for picking between the two, it depends on what you want. The Cobra (I think) is a good base line car and responds well to mods. The Saleen is expensive because (I think) you're paying to say "yeah, this is a real saleen I got here."
In the end it's up to you, but I'd think I'd get the 03 and mod it up.

isnt the saleen faster, it goes 180 or sumpin, n the cobra goes wut liek 160???

Muscletang

That's true about the Cobra only able to do 160, but remember, it's fuel shuts off at 6,500 rpm. A simple reprogramming of the computer will undo that and boost its top speed.

Well i was thinking he wanted to keep it stock, in which case go saleen. But if he is looking for a mod-able car, go with the cobra.

i jus wanna mod it a lil, i dont know much about engins yet, but i wanna learn, but while im learlning i still want a fast car

the saleen with 445 hp is the extreme addition very rare and alot of money i doubt he is gonna go with that one. Yeah the corba goes faster pry 165 ish. the saleen will be more money used losses value slower.
No They do not make the s351 nomore. only S281 S281sc and S281E The E is a monster with a monster price though.

The C6 is a great car too like High rev said 400 hp and 12.7 seconds i am pretty sure mybe 12.9 gm says it can do o to 60 in 4.1 seconds z-51 model with short throw shifter.

O yeah and moding both are going to be just as easy to mod only difference is saleen 2 v and corba is 4v corba will have better flow though the heads more valves but u cna change the heads on the saleen to larger valves and flow the same its all up to u man personaly i think its a drivers race if they line up.
Guys if anyinfo is wrong plz correct me

No offense but your just throwing this idea out there. Your going from a 1999 v6 stang to a 2003 Mustang Cobra or Saleen. :eek7: Why not go for a late model GT for a couple thousand. You can do all the mods you like and make it as quick as your wallet will go. Only reason I say this is because the 2003 Saleen or Cobra is between $28,000 and $40,000. Think of it this way you buy a 1993 GT 5spd for maybe $4500 you throw in 10,000 of mods, and you'll have a beast for the grand price of $14,500. You said the v6 was slow so you jump to a Saleen or Cobra, what about all your other choices, plus your insurance on 2003 Saleen or Cobra will be a lot higher. Also you said you don't know much about engines so you can learn on a less expensive car. It's not the logical choice to start tinkering on a $40,000 car. Make sense.

tru tru u do make sence...hummm what advantages does a cobra have that a gt dosent, on lets say both 99's

1999 Cobra:
Horsepower: 320 bhp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 314 lb-ft @ 4750 rpm
Quarter Mile: 13.9 sec @ 102.4 mph
The 1999 Cobra was overrated with horsepower, independent dyno tests showed that the Cobra was actually producing less than 300hp. The improvements they made over previous models was a fully independent rear suspension.
1999 GT:
Horsepower: 260 bhp @ 5250 rpm
Torque: 302 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm
Quarter Mile: 14.1 sec @ 99 mph

To be honest if you have the money, and saleen is outta the question, do a 99+ GT or a 03+ cobra. Those are the fastest of those 2 categories.

Personally if I wanted a mod car this is what I would do. Which I will after my '66 is done.
I would buy a 99+ GT, stock heads, stock cams, roller followers, forged internals, and a turbo. If I had the money I would upgrade heads and cams. You could go as slow or as fast as you wanted to that way.

Hey! thats my upcoming project. Unless I cant fund it, then used s/c here I come. I was actually thinking I could do the 99gt turbo as a project over the course of a year or two.
