i hit the streets last night looking for some action so i ran my usual course which took me around my local mall. The first few rounds i saw nothing but on the 3rd pass i saw this nice looking 86-89 Camaro pull out of a parking garage. Being the nice guy Iam, i allowed him to pull infront me so i could see if it was the fabled I-ROC. I didnt see any badges or decals suggesting it had the 350 CI W-8. Knowing it would be an easy kill i pulled beside him at the stoplight and asked what he had under the hood. He told me it still had the stock 302CI whcih was good for 150-160HP. I snuffled a laugh and asked him if he wanted to. He took a long look at my car and grinned as the light turned green. He caught me by surprise as he smoked his rear wheels and took off. I caught up to him and rode his ass until he sped up more. With all 3 lanes clogged up with traffic i followed him onto RT.3 where we could have some fighting room. Luckily i caught an open lane where i passed him. He did the same as he cut over 2 lanes to the fast lane and we proceded to play cat and mouse.

I decided i had enough and upped the boost to max 12.6. I eventually got a good 4-5 car lengths ahead of him and we both took exit 6 and pulled over. He got out and popped the hood where saw a new Edelbrock Carbeurater and a March Ram air system.

so wait it was a 350 after all?

No it was the Base 302 CI(5.0)

Burnt do you have alot of money? I mean it seems like only days ago your were wanting a turbo, now you have purchased, installed, tuned, and raced with a turbo. Very Interesting.

Running that much boost on a stock echo motor would blow it within seconds. How did you even get the Greddy 3sgte intercooler to work with your motor? Its not even a FMIC. It sits on top of the motor, and even if you modded it, you'd need a custom hood to even use it half effectively. How are you using a CAI if the IC is on top? theres no room for the CAI to route down away from the heat of the engine. And where in the world did you get a Weapon R CAI? Weapon R only makes SRI. And at what RPM are you getting that many lbs/ft at?

yeah i really cant see 12.6PSI on stock internals. Most 4 banger internals are only good to about 7-8PSI anything after that and it would blow really quickly.

well i always thought cars that came boosted would have stronger engines that were not boosted from the factory. Just to make the car a little more reliable. If im wrong fine, but thats just what i thought. If im wrong ok.

It's not so much that the internals are better/stronger ... it's that OEM boosted cars generally have lower compression.

The risk in boosting non-boosted engines is that they have higher compression.

so on a non factory boosted car without any internal mods, whats the max PSI you could run safely? Just a general amount and i know all engines are different and can handle boost differently. But lets just say the average econobox 4 banger.

Hehe i can tell someone wants to up his boost.

I have no expereince boosting an originally unboosted car.

I would suspect that if you had proper intercoolering, water injectio and proper tuning you could probably get away with a fair amount of boost :)

... people in th MR2 community seem to have had some luck boosting 5-7 psi on the non-turbo MR2s.
The NA MR2 engine is very weak though and I have heard of a number of them going boom from being boosted.

A guy on www.echodrivers.com safely runs 10psi on his turbo'd echo with stock internals. I am going to go with BS too. He doesn't even know the weight or stock power of his car.

the honda b18b can run up to 12 psi of boost with stock internals, just as long as you upgrade all the fuel management systems (fpr, new injectors, fuel rail.. stuff like that) and airflow aspects (intake exhaust).. so in other words, the only thing that's going to be stock is the block/head.... but it's still 12 psi on stock internals:p

i dont get people like this, why tell people lies to try and make yourself look good. I would have respected this guy if he had a geo metro. I don't think it's in production yet though, so dont assume anything.

This is a supercharger for the echo made by TRD. Although, it is under the Europe TRD name of TTE. If you have connections, I bet you could get one in North America. I highly doubt this guy has one though.

okay since we're on the camaro story kick i'll tell ya'll about my very first race ever....just because i can and want to...

Okay so i had saved up all summer to get myself a Z28 (this was in 1999) and finally after all the hard work in the fields i got one. The very first day that i got it i was driving home from a vike's game (which we won thank you very much...go vikes!!) and a young asian dude in a an Acura Integra Type R, was pacing me for about 5 minutes on the highway. And seeing that this was a lengendary import car that has been know to surprise alot of V8's i thought what the hell.....
So, i kept an even speed of 70 mph and looked over at him, and held up three fingers and pointed to my horn....he noded....so i give him the first honk, and then the second, and finally with excitement i hit the third beep. And we were off, he had gotten about half a car length on me at about 95mph and then at about 100mph I finally started to pull him in...once we got up to 120 i was ahead by about 2 and half car lengths and he shut down and took a ramp.....oh man, good times, it was the most exciting thing i had done all year!! haha

But seriously though, why did you choose an Echo? That'dd really why you had me fooled; someone thats gonna make up a car is going to claim a supercharged Corvette or something outrageously quick.
