97 JGC not startingjeepinator 09-26-2004, 05:33 PM I wake up this morning and look out at my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's headlights are on dimly (but not taillights) and interior lights are on. They were not on last night. I go out to start it and the engine clicks but doesn't try to start. All the lights then turn off. I try jumpstarting it and it turns over but does not start. After the jumpstart it no longer even clicks or does anything when I try to start. Tried jumpstarting it later on giving it gas this time. Starts then immediately dies. Check gages light comes on this time. Anybody have any idea of what's wrong with it? Alternator perhaps? Cam7 09-27-2004, 06:12 AM Check battery conections clean if needed. Then check battery voltage before startup. A fully charged batterry should read about 12 to 12.5 volts. Then after running asuming it does check voltage should be around 13.5 to 14.5 volts. jeepinator 09-27-2004, 10:40 AM Battery was dead. I left battery on slow charge overnight. Starts up fine, read 12 volts before starting, 14 volts after. I still have no clue as to why headlights turned themselves on while the switch was still off. Battery was so low jumpstarting didn't work, probably because this jeep has too many electronic features. Their motto seems to be: If something works, keep adding features until it doesn't. Cam7 09-28-2004, 04:55 AM Voltage is right, dont know about headlights usless you have a remote starter and the button got stuck. Just guessing! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
