Me and my friend have been arguing who will win...my 1970 383 stroker Chevelle or his 289 '68 'stang thats not done yet...and of course both us of think our own will win so i want a second opinion...my chevelle is a 350 small block with a 400 crank, 750 holley carb, mild cam from comp cams, 4.11 rear gear ratio, 350 turbo tranny, and a bunch of other goodies...my friends mustang is a 289 with 351 heads, mild cam, 650 carb, 4.56 gears, and a manual tranny(dont no which) and again, a bunch of other goodies.
Im putting out about 415 hp and i got 33% more engine than he does...the only benefiet i c with his is he is 400 pounds lighter and has 4.56s instead of 4.11s and a 5 speed stick shift instead of my 3 speed auto. So which do u think would b faster in 1/4mile?
thnx in advance for any help

based on the information, I'd say if you can both hook up out of the hole, you should win b/c
1-the 383 is a great torque motor
2-an auto can be easier to hook up that a stick (depending on traction)
3-coil spring car tends to hook better than most leaf spring cars (again, varies on each situation)
However, the weight difference is there and not really enough information on his combo. Either way, only way to find out is race em!

i agree with the stangmaster on the part that stangs are the best cars in the world but given the stats id say the chevelle

Depends on how the Mustang driver shifts.

Unless that stang has slicks he's gonna sit there and burn all day unless the guy is one hell of a driver. The Chevelle defineatly has the advantage in the traction... A little more wieght, a little less steep gears in the read and the auto, it should hook allot better, if they are both on the same tires, I say the chevelle all the way... if the stang has slicks and it can jump you out of the hole he should be able to pull on you through 3rd, after that you'll more than likely start to catch up... but depending on how far behind you are you migh not be able to catch him by the end. But if you jump him off the line you should should slowly pull away with maybe a few tenths over him in the end. It will be a very good race, and will come down to the driver... if on the same tires and drivers aroun the same skill level I asy the chevelle, if the stang has better tires and a better drive it will take the chevelle. Thats what I think.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm now thinking I'm putting out more like 380rwhp just because of all the hp loss in my drivetrain like stock heavy driveshaft and my TH350 is pretty dang old and i need a new torque converter and plus my heads are that great. Depending on how well he put his car together (not that good of friends with him so i have no idea) and how he made everything work together he will be putting out around 250-300rwhp im assuming. In response to the last post, he has 17s i have 15s, same width though. I have also been driving my car everyday for about a year doing some random racing and he has only had his car running for a month or two, so i can handle my car alot better so i may have a slight advantage in the experience catagory but i dont know if that will make a difference, i do know though that i have better reflexes than him(drugs have noticably affected him). His car is also slightly better designed for dragging because he has a small radiator, no heater, battery in the trunk and a couple little things like that...so basicly mines a daily driver and his is trying to be half drag-half driveable. as soon as i get my new rear end which is a ford 9" with richmond 4.11s, moser axles, and powertrax unit(should add alot more traction) and he fixes up some stuff with his car we will race. so should be within 2 months i hope. anyways ill let you all know how it goes.

What is the difference bewteen RWHP and HP? Is hp more stronger than a rwhp? Also I heard of RHP, can some one explain to me?

HP is the HP of the engine
RWHP is rear wheel horsepower, you lose some in the drivetrain
RHP is I believe rated horsepower, the manufacturer's rated HP may differ from actual output.

Oh, thanks for that. So your saying that RWHP has less HP, and also can you have HP and RWHP at the same time?

OK let me spell it out for you.
Your engine has 250HP. Because your automatic transmission has friction, you lose some HP, and you put your car on the dynomometer, and it has 195HP at the rear wheels.
So.....engine = 250HP
and rear wheel HP (RWHP) 195.
Kapisch?
