CoolantHarold2810 09-22-2004, 09:47 PM I have noticed recently in my Taurus that the coolant goes below the normal level and then I have to top it up. Does this mean there is a problem with the car ? Thanks Harold mwt 09-23-2004, 12:31 PM Are you checking it at the same temperature? Like when it is at operating temp or totally cooled down? Mike :smokin: Harold2810 09-27-2004, 01:32 PM Hi Mike Yes I did check at the same temperature. Just a quick question could this problem be due to the fan belt ? Thanks Harold Willyum 09-28-2004, 04:03 PM How often do you have to top it up? Coolant loss is usually from a leak or going into the engine thru a bad head gasket. A lot going into the engine will show as white in the exhaust. A slow radiator or waterpump leak can evaporate before it drips. Never heard of the belt causing a coolant leak. Harold2810 09-30-2004, 01:30 PM Hi WIllyum Thanks for the reply. I checked the smoke in the car and there was nothing unusual. In fact there was no smoke at all. I almost topup the coolant every 2 weeks. There are no signs of leak on the ground where I park the car either. The engine service light does not lightup either. Hope you will be able to guide me THanks Harold Willyum 09-30-2004, 05:05 PM Harold, I have no real insight just for you except to clean the engine are up and look it over carefully. I know it is nearly impossible to see the radiator but you may have to take the front apart enough to see if there are any green/yellow stains. Look the waterpump area over as well. buckruss 09-30-2004, 10:35 PM One thing to check would be the coolant resivour/pressure tank. Noticed my 98 having same problem and had a hair crack along the bottom. With a couple and bolts and $30 later no more problem. I think its a common problem, the Ford house told they had sold that day. Harold2810 10-01-2004, 03:43 PM Thank you very much for giving me ideas. I will check on the car this weekend. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
