I am leaning towards the GT3 but would like some more input.
Please give a reasons for you choice, thanks.

I would definitely pick the GT3 over the Turbo. Then again I prefer the MKI over the MKII GT3 but I am assuming you live stateside so your only choice is the MKII.

The Turbo is too posh for me. The GT3 is more hardcore, especially in the way the engine and exhaust sounds. The suspension is more rigid and given the fact the GT3 doesn't have electronic aids other than ABS, it will really test your driving ability if you dare.

You could wait for the 997 GT3, which will probably over shadow the 996 in every performance category. The new generation PCCBs are a lot better than the 996 units. So much better that the 997 GT3 Cup racecar is equipped with them as opposed to the 996 GT3 Cup and RSR cars used cast-steel units instead.

I'm a Turbo man, for exactly the same reasons as I mentioned in the "GT2 vs Turbo" thread. Its just a better all round, everyday car than the GT2/3

Thanks for the input guys.

When will the 997 GT3 be released?

By the way I'm from Canada but I also have a place in Cali where I live about half the year, incase that makes a difference.

It depends on your purpose... The GT3 is a pure sports car, it's driveable on the street, but in the rain or long highway drives, you're going to notice it's a race car thinly guised as a street car.

The Turbo has much more muted handling, understeer, and is much more friendly to drive on the street. It's comfortable for long drives, it's very stable and handles well in bad weather.

Myself, I'm a GT3 kinda guy. If I want something that's comfy for long distance driving, I'll get an SL500.

I can tell you from some very real experience, that SL's dont handle snow, ice or oil well at all. You can't really beat the Turbo in that respect. Its phonominaly capable as a GT.

hi guys, this is my first time posting on the porsche forum, i have a 3000GT vr4, which i know cant hold a candle to a GT3 or turbo, but i love the GT3 so much....i have a friend whos dad has a turbo, and he believes that the turbo was faster than the GT3, but i didnt agree.

mitsuGTvr4 to my understanding the Turbo is slightly faster in a striaght line but the GT3 is faster around a track. If you know how to drive the GT3 that is.

I assume you're looking at 996s? I, also, looked at the 996 GT3 and the 996 Turbo. Would have bought the GT3 until I drove a 993 Turbo. Although many old-line Porsche folks decry the "sanitization" of the 911, the 996 model has moved Porsche into the modern age of automotive ergonomics and perfromance. It's a very fine GT, IMO. Being new to Porsche, the water- cooled vs. air-cooled, the quiet vs. noisy, the solidity vs. quirkiness had no bearing on my decision on the 993TT vs the 996GT3. The 993TT just felt better, power delivery and handling. Its dash ergonomics are crap, but I pay little attention to that on the track. :)

Despite selling the GT3 again this year in the States, I am unsure if Porsche will introduce the 997 GT3 due to slow sales of the 996 model. Yes, the American market for the GT3 wasn't as strong as Porsche expected. Who knows though.

I'd give a kidney for either one. lol. But the rawness of the GT3 is what I would pick

As Cbass says, it comes down to what you want from the car.

Bottom line is, Turbo for touring, GT3 for thrashing.

I've been a fan of the GT3 since it was released. My views of the car are a little biased.
