1993 grand cherokee, no spark to coilTall41 09-22-2004, 04:59 PM Hello all and thanks for setting up this group! I'm working on a 1993 limited with electrical issues. I've read some great posts and some great suggestions, and i've tried most. here's my problem: No spark to coil. I've traced all wiring and and replaced cam sensor, distributor, and coil. Checked all fuses and relays, (but i have to admit, I'm not the best at checking). The alarm system was disconected before I got the car, and it was running fine until a few weeks ago. there were a few broken wires that have been repaired, but no luck so far. I also hear that there you can replace the coil and distributor with a distributor, coil and points from an old AMC and it will work. Any thoughts or suggestions? thanks all! Tom HI, WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS ARE YOU HAVING, BESIDES NOT HAVING SPARK AT THE COIL. WHAT ENGINE DO YOU HAVE. USUALLY IF YOU ARE NOT RECEIVING SPARK AT COIL TERMINAL IT'S A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO A OLDER DISTRIBUTOR WITH POINTS ?? WHERE WERE THE BROKEN WIRES FOUND? DALE jeepman600@aol.com Tall41 09-22-2004, 07:10 PM Hi Dale... It's a 4.0 engine. Broken wires were right behind the AC compressor. The cramkshaft position sensor was supposed to be replaced already, but maybe it's not working properly.... is there a test I can run to see if it's working? I had heard about the older points/distributor, but i wasn't really sure if it would work.... There apears to be no other electrical issues other than the lack of power to the coil... HI, DO YOU MEAN THAT THERE IS NO VOLTAGE AT THE COIL WIRES OR THAT THERE IS NO SPARK COMING OUT OF COIL WIRE. THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR SPIKES VOLTAGE TO THE COIL. I'VE HAD THEM GO OUT IN 2-3 DAYS WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED USING THEM. EMAIL ME AT jeepman600@aol.com I'LL PULL A TEST SHEET YOU CAN TRY. DALE THE DISTRIBUTOR PART SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF HEADACHES. :crying: Tall41 09-23-2004, 12:14 PM Hi All.... Crankshaft sensor checks out ok, still double checking other wiring to be sure theres no shorts. Any suggestions? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
