97 Accord LX Transmission questions.YukiHime 09-20-2004, 10:44 PM My boyfriend has a 97 Accord LX, and the transmission has some problem with it, the dealer checked it out and says it's being overheated and it has internal problems. So here is the question: Is it possible to replace the Automatic by a Manual? Is it going to be a problem if he doesn't do anything about it? How much will it cost him if he need to fix it(Replacing the old one with a new one)? Thanks, guys. :) mgcatthew 09-21-2004, 02:27 AM did he flush out the tranny. a common problem with the tranny overheating is that something is clogging it to run through the radiator. a manual tranny might run around a 1000k. im taking that off the top of my head. 94accordVTEC 09-21-2004, 10:34 AM First of all pretty much all honda AT's are junk it's just a matter of time before they break. What exactly is it doing (from a driving stand point) I am on my third but thankfully i installed all of the replacements so it wasn't much money ($600x2 for the used trannys). To have someone do it with a new tranny will be at the very least $1500. As far as converting to a MT i have assisted doing this to a friends car and it is something that can be done (we were doing a 94 but it's about the same). Keep in mind that you don't only need a MT but all of the linkage, pedals, center console, and various other parts. We bought an accord from the junk yard that had been hit hard in the back, used all the parts we needed and then parted out the rest so the swap was pretty much paid for after selling all the parts we didn't need (seats, air bags, front body, gauges etc.) Good luck!
