My fiances 95 Civic has been giving us problems lately. It is detonating and also consuming approx. 1 litre per 2000km. I know that the oil burning problem is likely valve seals or rings. It has approx. 120000 miles. I did a compression test and the results seem to be fine. Do these cars have problems with valve seals at this mileage? I am really concerned about the detonating. I checked the timing and it is set perfect. Does anyone know where the egr valve is located? Could it be detonating because of a dirty fuel filter?

TIA,
Steve

Detonation can be caused excessive carbon build up in the cylinders. Try using a fuel with a higher octane rating.

I dont think they do because mine has 140,000 miles and it has no problems at all. Except for something with the air conditioning, but nothing with the engine.
