my check engine light is on and i checked the ecu and it gave me 3 codes which were:
code 6- coolant temperature
code 9- no.1 cylinder piston
code 17- speed sensor
can anyone tell me what each code means and what im supposed to do to fix the problems?

ta sensor unpluged or just dont got one,9. cylinder position sensor get a dizzy and the speed sensor i have no idea rite now give more info does the car try to run and did you do anything to affect the timing?

first of all i would recommend that you unplug your negative battery terminal or remove the hazard fuse under the hood for a couple of minutes, plug back in, and then drive the car and see if the light still comes on. the ECu stores codes when it triggers them, so some of yours might be old codes that are no longer a problem.
If they are still there:
code6: coolant temperature... this code can be triggered from having air in the coolant (bleed coolant..run car with no radiator cap on until the thermostat comes on and leave it off until all bubbles come out). Thats bout the only reason i've ever seen for that code to be triggered.
code9: no1 cylinder position
this code can be a number of things. First off, check your cam timing and ignition timing. If they are drastically off it will cause the code. Next up, take apart your distributor and check the resistance on the n1 cylinder position sensor and check specs according to the manual. most often times, people replace the whole distributor if this is bad.
code 17: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
99.99% of the time this code is triggered becuase your speedometer cable isnt pushed down all the way into the transmission. It will even work the speedometer, but not have enough force to properly work the VSS which is located in the back of the gauge cluster. if that doesnt cure the problem, replace the sensor in the cluster or get a new cluster.
anyone else have anything to add?
