TIME OUT I'D FIRST LIKE TO SAY I ALWAYS TYPE IN CAPS SECOND I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO STICK ANYTHING DOWN MY THROAT I'M JUST ADDING MY OPINION LAST IT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU WANNA RACE IF YOUR GONNA USE HI-PERFORMANCE SLICKS OR STREET LEGAL SLICKS (BFGOODRICH T/A G-FORCE DRAG RADIAL) WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY NEXT ? R U USING 24" SLICKS (HI PERFORMANCE) OR RUNNING 17" SLICKS ON 15" RIMS (I DOUBT YOUR LAUNCHING HARD ENOUGH TO NEED 24" SLICKS PULLING 15's) IF YOUR GONNA USE THE 17"s ON THE 15"s I WOULD USE THE LS IF YOUR RUNNING 24" SLICKS GO WITH THE GSR HOPE I HELPED AND ONCE AGAINI DON'T WANT ANYONE TO STICK ANYTHING DOWN MY THROAT I'M JUST ADDING MY OPINION

i am not running slicks...the only thing that i would run would be some high performance street tires on some 17's....when i get the money for 17's...lol...anyways...it isnt a GSR tranny...we already clearified this...the guy said it was a tranny from a del sol. ok...so i will rephrase my question. will i hit 65mph at MAXIMUM of 7500rpm's with the y21(jdm) tranny "from the del sol". ON REGULAR 14/15in rims.

k dude r your civics even launching hard enough to run thick slicks slap some 15's on that muther and sum16's maybe 17's and drop your et

i guess you never raced a civic before, you dont sound like you know what your talking aobut when you say slap some 15s, 16s,and 17s

i did some recalculations using a 26" tire and got 62mph in 2nd gear because after thinking about it and seeing my friends cars on 22" slick it sat lower then regular tires and from M&H website saying 185 75 r15 says diameter as 26"

i have never seen a fast civic....go figure. anyways...we deffinately got off track...
anyone want a b16 tranny? $500+shipping...

you know with yoru goal of 300whp you would only be running somewhere in teh 12s, i doubt you would max out a b16 tranny with only 300whp, so idk why you wouldnt use it. its a different story if your putting out 500hp.

using 26" tires, i got the b16 at 120 in 4th. you aint hitting 120 in teh 1/4 with only 300whp. now on the m&h website they say the diameter of a 26" slick is 185/75/r15.

and what you never seen a 10 sec civic, ive seen 4 so they can go fast

LS TRANNY IS THE WAY TO GO....you stay in boost longer, my boy who is a master mechanic strapped a turbo on his 00 R when it had 125 miles on it and eventually had the car running 11.90's at 117 and was having to shift to 5th at the traps...he swapped in an LS tranny and not only did it lower his 60' times his trap speed went up to 120 and time lowered to 11.70's......the LS tranny keeps the car in boost longer and makes the turbo more effecient.

This is just plain wrong. Shorter gearing equals quicker acceleration. It's physics. If he ran faster with the LS trans he doesn't know how to drive. Talk to any respectable honda builder, Laskey Racing, Full-Race, Tony and others at Norwood, they will all tell you the truth, that the LS tranny is the worst choice for boost, unless you're running an LS motor only turning 7000 RPM's.

Running a 24.5" slick you have room for 127 MPH in fourth gear on a B16/ITR trans. The only way he would need to shift out of fourth would be if he were somehow managing to run 11's on a miniscule 22" slick, or if he was only shifting the motor at 8000, which really doesn't make much sense. An LS trans on that setup makes absolutely no sense. Third gear is redlining at 114 MPH, meaning he would be shifting right before the traps. Then you shift into dog ass long fourth gear, which would redline at 150. I don't know how you think a highway gear that gives you 36 MPH of acceleration will make your car quicker, but if it makes sense in your head, more power to you.

couldnt have said it better myself. yeah for itr trans, i had 113 with 22" tires, and 118 with 23" tires. so he must have been running smaller then 23" or shifting early.

Boyz, close ratio gearboxes (gsr tranny) are used for screamers (B16A and B18C) because they only make decent torque at higher rpm’s a close ratio tranny are utilized which works as a torque multiplier. LS engines on the other hand have loads of torque low down in the rev range and thus uses taller gear ratios which are better suited for the LS engines torque characteristics. If you have two identical LS’s one with a LS tranny and the other with a GSR tranny dragging on a flat surface the car with the LS tranny will be quicker. But if you drag up a steep, twisty mountain pass I’ll put my money on the one with the GSR tranny. The reason being that with the GSR tranny you’ll have more torque available on the wheels which are ideal for going up mountain passes and your revs will be higher for the same speed in the same gear.
With the GSR tranny you will go quicker through the gears but remember that you will change gears at a lower road speed, this doesn’t necessarily means that the car will be quicker. The GSR tranny will also be better suited for track use and it might be quicker with overtaking maneuvers on the motorway but again it depends on road speed, gear selected and rpm. Remember, with a B18B equipped car you want to utilize the low down torque of the engine, you don’t want to go through the gears as quick as possible.

I’ve tried the GSR tranny and the LS tranny. The difference between the two trannies are so small in 1st and 2nd that you hardly notice it, you only see the difference when you shift to third and the taller LS 3rd start utilizing all the extra power and torque from the turbo.

If you go B18B stick with your LS tranny, it’s the best tranny for the B18B’s torque curve especially when turbocharged.

If the turbo spooled instantly, or lets say for arguments sake that it spooled at 2000rpm's the gsr tranny would be perfect. The shorter gears would rip the car down the track. However, turbo's don't spool instantly, they spool (depending on turbo) closer to 4000 to 5500 for an average turbo. So the goal is to not only reach that boost point sooner, but also to remain in that boost area longer. The longer gears in the ls tranny would make you stay in the peak (boosted) area of your powerband longer.

this guy is right. y doesn't everyone save money on thegsr and not buy it keep the ls and invest in a big turbo lol?!

i would honestly get a gsr tranny for a ls turbo. the b16 tranny will be too tightly geared especially for a 7k rpm redline. on the other hand, the ls tranny is too long and will take too long for the car to get into its powerband without downshifting (unless you run a lightened flywheel). i have an ls with gsr trans in my hx coupe and it rips. well, ok not rips, but its a low 15 second car. when turbo, the closer gear ratios and higher final drive of a gsr trans will keep you higher rpms, which will reduce lag and/or let you run a larger turbo. example: im going to use a t3/to4e 57 trim with a .63 a/r turbine.
