URGENT! engine swap problems....Severity 09-19-2004, 03:01 AM i am swapping in a JDM b18b into a 93 civic LX 5spd. i started the swap on thursday the 16th and am in the middle of it right now. i finally got the d15b7 pulled today and i am trying to prep the b18b but i am coming up with some problems. i was hoping some people in this forum might be able to help me out, btw i am in the portland/metro area if anyone happens to be nearby. first thing i found wrong was the left lower engine mount is missing, not sure what to do there, i think it has something to do with engine having a/c before, second problem, not all of the electrical connections match up, the big 14 pin connectors on either side line up, but there is one connection on the left side and two on the right side of the engine bay that do not match up. not sure what to do. does anybody have any experience with installing a JDM motor? any help would be appreciated, this is my only vehicle and i am stranded at my dad's until i gets this sh*t fixed! thanks Miataracer 09-20-2004, 12:57 AM the engine mount is not a huge deal. the mount you speak of i believe is the small mount that comes off of the side of the compressor bracket and mounts right under the frame rail on the drivers side. i ran my car without that mount for a short while and got away with it, i am sure you could get that mount from a junk yard which is what i would suggest about the best help i can give you on the wiring is to direct you over to www.honda-tech.com eckoman_pdx 09-20-2004, 05:44 AM Theres no such thing as a JDM B18B1, that was a USDM motor out of a 94+ Integra. I seem to see a lot of people claiming to sell a "JDM B18B1, etc" or claiming to have one, but there's not a JDM B18B1. The B18B1 exists, it's just not a JDM motor, it's USDM. Just curious, which Shop in the area claimed to be selling you the "JDM B18B motor." I'm curoius since the LS motor (as it's commenly called) is not a JDM motor, it's a USDM motor. If your looking to get the mount from a junkyard, call up auto adventure. The are around 2nd and clay on the Rose Garden side of the river. The are an indoor junkyard of strickly used Honda and Acura parts. The number is 503-238-6218. Just to be sure, you are using the B18B1 ecu and not trying to run the LS off the old D15B7 ecu, correct? Severity 09-20-2004, 05:01 PM my engine is not a b18b1, it is a b18b. at least it only says b18b on the engine. i got the engine from hmotorsonline. i checked the auto adventure website and couldn't find any motor mount info but i could try calling. as far as the ecu is concerned they gave me a 92 Int. ecu, hmotors said the fuel maps are the same. i am thinking about taking my car to speed concept or race dezign and see if they can finish up the swap for me, cause i am at a loss for what to do about the electrical stuff. if i can, i will post pictures of what i am talking about. eckoman_pdx 09-20-2004, 05:42 PM Hmmm , to my knowlegde there was never a JDM B18B, there was a USDM B18A1 and B18B1, the B18B has always been consiered a USDM motor...strange..their the only place I've ever seen claiming a JDM B18B...as I said, strange...I have already noticed a few inconsitancies there, so I'm not to suprised I suppose at the above...for example there was never a JDM GSR, it was called the SiR over there...and there wasn't a model dubbed LS (like there was no model dubbed GSR) either....then they call it the JDM RSX type-R....there is No, I repeat NEVER, a JDM RSX, the RSX (DC5) is called the Honda Integra still in Japan...and likewise there is no USDM RSX Type-R, no matter what they say...anyways... Anyways, Call up Auto Adventure and talk to Patrick, it's much mch more helpful to call than using the website. Keep calling too, they get new stuff all the time. A 92 USDM teg would have been a cable clutch mechanical speedo B18A1. The B18B1 used a electronic speedo and hydrolic clutch. I would have thought they would have send you a 94 or 95 B18B1 teg ecu, that is still an OBD-I ecu...oh well...anyways... If your at a loss and are considering going to a shop, talk to Tony @ Speed Concept, Wes or James@ Race Design or Kenny, or Paul or Ralph @ Ground Zero. I have a friend who could probably help, but he's busy now with working, etc. If I get ahold of him and he'll help, I'll let you know, but don't hold your breath. If he'd do it, he'd probably want a little $$ since he doesn't know you, although I'm really not sure. Severity 09-20-2004, 05:59 PM ok, so assuming there is a JDM b18b, i should be able to take a usdm b18b1 wiring harness and use it, right? are all of the electrical connections even neccesary? i wish i had my pictures that i took.... here is a link to hmotors:(http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=category&keyword=JDM%20USDM%20Engines&hit=5) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
