I need help. I was wondering if anyone new whether or not the gasket that is for the valve cover to connect if reusable. I took the old valve cover off and put on a new one. Can I use the pre-existing one? I have a 96 accord 4cyl. Any help would be appreciated.

No don't re-use it. You're just setting yourself up for leaks and having to do the job over again.

NEVER re-use any gaskets it will just end up costing you more money when stuff starts to break because the gasket is leaking

This is a general mis-understanding for most people. The fact is, YOU CAN RE-USE THE VALVE COVER GASKET! As long as it's not hardened and brittle and have cracks. I had reused the gasket on my 92 Accord 2 times since it's still flexible and in "rubber condition", and it never leaks. Just make sure you apply sealant at the sharp corners.

where can you go about getting the sealant? and how much will be needed?

The new gaskets with an integral carrier and silicone sealing beads seem to hold up real well to reuse. I wouldn't reuse a neoprene of cork gasket, or any composite of the two.

P.S. Never use sealant on a silicone type gasket. It acts as a lubricant, makes the gasket want to slip or migrate out of position once put in compression.

I always use a high temperature sealant. I do not have the name on hand. Will get it later. It's gold-orange color. I used it on oil pan, plug tube, vlave cover, etc. The amount you need to apply depends. Just make sure it's enough to form a thin layer along the surface that needs to be sealed.

You can get it at most auto parts store.
