vtec/turbo??KaMaKaZiPyRo 09-18-2004, 11:51 PM Ok this is just from my thought, wouldnt a car with vtec or sumthin like it screw up really bad with a turbo installed? Seems that way because the vtec and turbo would engage at around the same time right? High RPM's? Also couldnt people set the vtec at lower RPM's with a vtec controller or sumthin so that it goes before the turbo does?? 95dxcivic 09-18-2004, 11:54 PM I am not that experienced on honda's since i'm only 15 but i think that v-tec would actually help because of better airflow. If you do a search you might find more things on turbo's on v-tec engines. exman98 09-18-2004, 11:55 PM yes you can set the rpm level on the vtec lower dont believe the turbo and the vtec together would hurt 97CivicX 09-19-2004, 06:48 PM if anything, vtec helps turbo greatly. its all about the airflow jcrx 09-19-2004, 06:57 PM if anything, vtec helps turbo greatly. its all about the airflow :iagree: Beastiek2 09-19-2004, 07:03 PM Yea dude read up about what Vtec is. Adjusting the Vtec as stated above is not a good idea. Stock Vtec motors are set at the exact point to engage. Fooling around with that should only be done for track purposes. Shaguar47 09-19-2004, 07:30 PM but still a combo of Vtec and Turbo is good once you hit the 5k point which activates it. Boom, your outta there. Beastiek2 09-19-2004, 07:36 PM Not in my SOHC :banghead: Shaguar47 09-19-2004, 07:41 PM DOHC would actually take the advantage more than SOHC but still a good combo in my book. eckoman_pdx 09-20-2004, 06:33 PM The theory behind the reasoning saying Vtec and Turbo don't mix has do do with overlap. High overlap cams and turbos tend to not mix @ high rpms, they can strave the turbo of air. The Vtec cam lobe is a high RPM lobe, I'm sure that's were most of this idea comes from. So true, high lift lobes and high rpms and turbos don't always mix...however... the vtec cam lob isn't so high it will royally screw it all up when boosted. It's all about tuning. Tune the motor, the fuel maps, etc. Many people have properly boosted and gotten power boosting a Vtec honda motor, as we all know. I thought I'd post this not to say "vtec and tubos don't mix," it was to explain the background of where people get the idea from. As with any motor, Vtec or not, it's all about the tuning, the airflow, and the fuel maps/flow. A vtec motor has a regular non-vtec and vtec fuel maps. I have heard so of the reason people think the vtec/turbo thing, as I said above, is because they don't properly tune everything, the motor, the maps, etc. If you tune part of the maps, the non-vtec map, of course it will run like crap when vtec kicks in. Anyways, thats where I heard that belief originated from. TrickyTrickyEngine 09-20-2004, 07:51 PM You don't have to worry about that. Vtec + Turbo = better. You can lower the engaging on either vtec or turbo producepeteSi 09-20-2004, 08:52 PM I wouldn't mess with the VTEC engage point... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
