Anybody got any good tricks on how to get a taillight or a headlight housing apart?

I tried the heat gun once before and its pretty tricky, to hot and you melt the plastic.

I heard about putting them in the oven from a friend but he doewn't know the specifics.

Oven? That would melt the whole thing. Don't do that. :screwy:

No he said put it on low for so many minutes. Definately not on 450 degrees

Ok I did it last week to my 04 headlights. It came out amazing. Pure JDM look. If you just want to know the temp its 350 pre heat oven for a good 15 min then turn it off. Stick the light in for about 10-12 min take it out. Get a small butter knife or somthing flat and thin thats strong and work your way around the edges starting at the corners once you get it open enough you can use your hands to pry it apart. Do it with 2 people so the other person can follow your tracks with a razor cutting the glue. To seal them back up get clear silcone from home depot 3$(aqaurium glue works). Heat both pieces of the lamp up again the same way so the old glue is sticky. Then put your new silicone on top of it . Press it together when tight put 2 quick grip vices on it let it sit at least over night and your all good. My whole set up with removing, painting and sealing took excatly 10 hours.

Thanks bro that worked flawlessly. i put it on a cookie sheet though the racks in the oven were to hot and i was afraid they would melt into the light.

If you want to play it safe setting it on warm or 200 is better. And leave it in there for about 15 minutes. Do the same to seal it.

You put the headlights in the oven at leave them in fro around 15 minutes, as said above. I forget the heat temp toset it at (I know 350 degrees was said above). I know I have a link around here somewhere to a DIY that talks about this. If you want I can try to find it and post it if I find it.

Sorry I didn't pay closer attention. I had my attention turned to other things. I was in the "Hot and Not" forum, "I Want Change" sub-forum posting, voiting and viewing my opinion to lobby get get the Honda forums back to how they were. I should have read closer, and yes if I had I WOULD have noticed that, anyone that knows me on here knows I normally pay better attention...anyways, glad it worked out none the less. Lets see pics of how it turns out from the thread starter...I just thought about posting the DIY link cuz of all the neat pictures with it, lol.

So, not to be a be-atch, but can I get a better picture of that headlight. My girlfriend the photography teacher loves for the phot's technical aspects of incorporating reflection and forms of light, I just wanna see where all the paint is, so if you, or anyone has a pick without the glare, I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks for posting the pic none the less

I tried it, and I am very happy with the results. To put the assembly back together, I put the plastic outer shield back on the housing, loosely then put it all back in the oven and squished the piece back together and put silicone on any section that didn't bead up or had gaps.

worked pretty good, only took a couple of hours to do. well worth it.

any formulas for the tailights?

Same shiznitt bro, What you doing to the tails?

something that is a lot easier to use....a heatgun. It goes a lot faster and if you're not dumb and set it to full hot, you won't have a chance to melt anything.

Don't have any plans for the tails. It would be nice to get the same kind of subtle, yet dramatic, look from the tails that painting the headlamps gets. Just haven't seen it done. Anyone got any pics or links of tails done up like that?

I would think remove the color sticker and replace it with a color bulb and paint the reflecters as desired. (within the law of course)

Be carefull with the tails because they WILL pull you over if your reflectors are painted and give you a work order to get them fixed
