99 civic turbo troulble99turbocivic 09-18-2004, 05:21 AM I just traded for a 99 honda civic ex with a 1.6 v-tec. The car has a Greddy turbo, speirco intercooler, greddy blue box, 2000 Si computer. I got the car from a friend who had all this installed, plus all the other minor bolt ons. Right after my friend had all this installed the car ran awsome for a few weeks but after taching it 9000 rpm a few times the stopped running right. It cuts out from 3900-5500 then clears up. Its only cuts out while driving, if you push in the clutch and rev it up it does not cut out. However it only cuts out while driving if you are over part throttle, it your under part throttle it runs normal. Seeing as the car cuts out only when it has load on it got me to thinking that this is also the time the engine has boost on it because the engine has no boost on it if you just rev it up so I disconnected the intake piping to keep boost out of the engine and put a cone filter over the throttle bodie then i drove the car and it ran good and didn't cut out. I noticed while taking off the piping the turbo had some oil in it and had a little in the intake piping. The check engine light stays on, but my friend had put on diagnostics and it said the knock sensor was bad. Any thoughts on whats wrong and how to fix it? Miataracer 09-18-2004, 03:29 PM first of all taking the intake pipe off of a turbo motor and running it is bad. the turbo is likely to over rev. next time you do that hold the waste gate open somehow. also, a 99 Si is a b16. a 99 Ex is a d16? the computers are not directly swappable without being reprogramed as far as I know. a stock d16 should NOT be revved to 9,000 rpm, esp with a turbo. what psi is the car running? the check engine light could be because the map sensor is seeing boost instead of vacuum i would do a compression check. if i were to guess i would say a piston has been burnt/melted mellowboy 09-18-2004, 10:29 PM Bad knock sensor means no vtec! Replace that. Knock sensor doesn't affect the bogging. Check if theres any leaks in any of the gaskets. Also check the intercooler piping to see if its on tight. :) mellowboy 09-18-2004, 10:31 PM also, a 99 Si is a b16. a 99 Ex is a d16? the computers are not directly swappable without being reprogramed as far as I know. I think he meant that he traded his ex for his friends SI. Which is a damn good trade :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
