Hi, I'm new to eclipses and new to the board. I just purchased a 95 eclipse gs. While trying to get familiar with the car I noticed out of the two fans only the driver side runs. I have read other posts on the board and I guess one is for cooling and one AC? The passenger side fan never comes on Ac or not. What should I check? Relay, fan motor? Not that my car is currently overheating but summer is pretty much over. Don't want to wait until things go wrong. I'd just as soon have both run all the time. It would provide better cooling as well as colder AC at slow speeds. What should I do?

Both fans are not always on. Only when it fails to turn on when needed (and who knows when the ECU turns the fan on) will you need to worry about it. In the winter, you don't need the cooling anyway. Engines work best at a certain temp, not as cold as possible.

open the hood with the car on and give a steady pull on the throttle for a few minutes to see if the fan will cut on

I tried letting it sit and run with the AC on, nothing. This isn' the smartest thing to do but I unplugged the working fan(keeping close eye on temp guage) and let the car heat up to about 3/4 on the guage and the other fan never kicks in. Do you think it could be a bad fan or relay?

You're right, that isn't smart. :)
OK, if your AC fan doesn't come on, test the wiring for power, ground, test the fan to see if it works.. etc. Normal electronics stuff.

if the A/C fan is not working why you unpluged the other fan???? thats not a good idea at all, cause the the car is going to heat a lot, and the other fan it's never going to turns on cause is the A/C fan. Check your fuses, I have a similar problem with a ford ranger and the problem were the fuses.

yamaha_2000r6;
The passenger side fan should come on and stay on as long as the AC is on. If it doesn't, it has to be either the fan itself, or the relay. I agree with the other guys, get a Haynes or a Chiltons manual for your car so that you trouble shoot it properly. One thing I can promise you, if you plan on keeping the car, you will definitely get your money's worth out of the manual.
