Hey, got a 92 civic with about 200k on it. There is a strange smell, kind of like burning something or other, when I get into high rpm's or I pull too hard. Engine seems to run fine, the smell is not cool though. I was thinking that maybe it's the drive belt slipping and rubbing but not sure. Any idea what this could be? Thx for replies...

I'm guessing it's your cat. Probably clogged or semi clogged and heats up when you get on the motor. Happens to me and a bunch of other people I know.

If it has a sulfur smell to it, then it's your cat. Usually when a civic is up around that many miles, the cat is something you should really replace. Also, you might want to check if timing is right or your grade is fuel is right. I started using 89 on mine for a little while and it went away until I replaced the cat.

yeah, im runnin 91 usually, i have no idea what sulfur smells like but you guys are probably right, it may be the cat. i know its not the clutch cuz it engages real well and had a new one put in not too long ago. The oil is fine, i check it every week and it never needs more. it's only a b15..im going to be getting a new motor in a couple months, probably a d16z6. but thanks for the help, ill go get a new cat.

Sulfur is an egg smell. U can notice right away. But yeah, the cat needs to be replaced.

yeah if its an egg smell its a cat..mine went on me the other night. boy did it ever stink. im sure it would rob your proformace..if it fell apart it would hurt the free flowing air..now would be the time to get a high flow cat

I disagree with the high flow cat thing. If it's a stock car with 200K miles on it, it's not worth putting one on.
Also try to watch the thread dates, this ones over 3 months old and chances are he's already replaced it.

Nope haven't replaced it. I'm savin up to buy a Prelude so I'm not wasting anymore money on this car, lol.
