Car: 107,xxx miles, 97 GSX, 3" downpipe w/ N1 exhaust, Turbo Timer, T25 replaced turbo (lower miles), Greddy Type S bov... etc
Problem: My problem lays in the BOV. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SET IT AT!!! I've heard to make it harder but the sound is completley different then when its softer. I've heard my friends WRX and it sounds like a hard whooosh. mine is a higher pitched whiishh. If I make it harder it sounds real low and not as cool. I don't know where to set it at to get the perfect sound with good performance. PLEASE if you can give me advice let me kno. THANKS -

I did some research and looked up past forums and I picked up some things. MY question is what is the difference between HARD and SOFT. I know what it does but how do I know if its too soft or too hard. Sounds pretty stupid but oh well, Hopefully someone gets what im saying!

set it whatever you want, it doesnt really matter. the pressurized air in the intercooler piping and the vaccum line from the intake manifold pretty much do all the work as for the bov opening and closing. but set it somewhere in the middle and where it souds good for you...the spring adjustment is just a little fine tuning tool that isnt something that has to be perfect,

"keep it soft! the harder you have it set the more back pressure is being put on the turbo (not good). loosen it up before you blow your turbo, i keep mine about 3-1/2 to 4 full turns out from all the way tight... plus like he said, its louder for longer when its set softer!" - ECLIPSERST QUOTE

"sorry to be a dick but if you dont know, dont post! giving the wrong info could cost someone a turbo because you said "dont think it matters where its set at" - ECLIPSERST QUOTE

im not being a dick, by setting it in the middle it wont be to hard and it wont be to soft...and i know exactly what im talking about...its all about pressurized air...when you let off the gas the vaccum line from the intake manifold sucks the bov open along with the air pushing through the intercooler piping....how do you thing that the type s is so much different then bovs that are not adjustable

I dont know if its just me, but my car seems faster with the BOV harder than softer....when its soft, pick up seems a little sloppier, and a harder setting the pick up feels crisp.... i am almost sure it isnt psychological...though the difference in minimal, i can still feel it...??

lol... the harder you have it set, the harder the vacuum has to pull it open, also the harder you have it set, the more back pressure there is being put on the turbo... which in return over time will blow your turbo seeing there is a lot of back pressure on it! the easier it is to open the BOV is easier on your turbo... dont have it all the way loose, about 4 full turns out from all the way tight is perfect! went you go racing, sure tighten it down, but for day to day use... keep it loose :lol2: (the BOV that is)
and you call me... i'll probably be up all day so give me a call anytime, 507-313-1024. i dont know if i'll be able to make it up there but i will try, and i though sport compact day was Sunday the 19th? (sunday funday!)
