I have white TenzoR AV7's (in the sig) and wondering if I should wax them or not? ...If so, is there special wax / polish for wheels?

I've seen the wax for shrome but these aren't bling bling ;)

I just clean my wheels with 20/20...its an ammonia free cleaner for windows, but I know of people who use it on just about every part of their show cars. I haven't personally come across any "wax" products for wheels. And I tried one wheel cleaner and it ruinted the paint on my centercap cups and almost stained the new powdercoat job. I don't trust too many wheel products now :(

For everyday cleaning I use highly diluted Simple Green.

Stuff is amazing and can be used on the engine bay as well.

I have a couple of dirt stains (they are lines) that will not come out :confused:

Simple Green owns all. I use it for my engone too. The nice thing is you can use 1 part SG to 20 parts water or more and get nice results. Also works well with stained clothes, Alex spilled oil on a good pair of jeans I got them into the wash right away and was able to save those pants.

As for the line stains on wheels. I think we are doomed to get a few that just won't come out to save our lives. Those stains might be from the wheel scraping something and the paint getting chipped and dirt embedded in. Stupid tire shop did that to one of my wheels :mad:

The OEM wheels and the aftermarket wheels I have owned have all been either painted or clearcoated. Since that is paint, it just seemed logical to use the same wax on the wheels that I use on the rest of my paint. That happens to be Meguiar's Medallion, but any good wax is probably going to do the job.
The Simple Green is a great product for cars and the household. My wife switched from Fantastic to the Simple Green after one trial. She had thought it was just an automobile product, but it works on about anything.

My car has the factory aluminum clearcoated wheels and the manual recommends that you wax them every so often I wax mine about every 3 months you can use carnubba wax (it's in most paste syle waxes) I use eagle one wax and it works very well.:) I also just started to use Zymol liquid wax it works equally as well but cost about 3 times more so i usually just use it for the paint.:D

It really depends on the type of wheel, but for sures, if you have clearcoated alloys, wax is definately ok. I would stay away from the wheel cleaner stuff; they tend to stain (and I think they are intended for removing tar and such, not wheel protection).

I think those polymer paint finishes are better than wax because the brake dust won't stick as easily. That's if you have clear coated wheels, the clear coat is the same as used on the car body. Personally, I use Nu Finish. It's durable and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

if you want to protect your wheels, waxing them is usuallyl a good idea. before waxing, cleaning the wheels is required. i would recomend Griot's Wheel Cleaner(its mail order only and fairly expensive, but we use it on all of our show cars). i would follow that with waxing them with any car wax that you would use on your paint, i recomend Meguires(can be purchased at any wal-mart) the wax will protect the wheels from brake dust corrosion during rain and will keep the wheels shineing longer.
