05 Vette vs. 05 GTOSSBigBlock 09-16-2004, 04:20 AM Both are an FR Curb weight, lb Vette 3200 Gto 3750 Base Enginefor both 6.0L/400HP OHV V-8 Price range Vette $45,000 - $52,000 GTO $32,495(est) They have the same engine but the vette has5 more pound of torque then the GTO. The vette is lighter then the GTo so no doubt that the Vette would beat the GTO. But if I was gonna get one the GTO is more in my price range. Curious on what other people thought about this. nbw 09-16-2004, 04:30 PM they are fairly different cars as you have noted. Both great cars, but very different. If your looking for poor mans vette I dont think the GTO will be all that great of a choice if you consider that c5's can still be bought new from a dealer CHEAP. I have seen them in the mid-high 20's! Other wise, the gto will be more practicle and can still be modified to do what ever kind of spirited driving you would like to do. And they have nice interior... hehe my 2cents. YogsVR4 09-16-2004, 05:24 PM Apples and oranges. One is a sports car and the other is a fast sedan. Though they may share the same engine block, any comparison falls apart there. I'd buy the vette personally. If I had more then a passenger to carry, then I'd get the 300C before the GTO, but either would do the job. kman10587 09-16-2004, 05:28 PM The GTO isn't a sedan, it's a coupe with sedan-like proportions. The GTO is a tank, so I'd take the 'Vette even if I had to buy one used. BP2K2Max 09-16-2004, 05:29 PM i was gonna say the same thing. the hemi powered 300c is better IMO. plus it looks like a lil bentley. youngvr4 09-16-2004, 06:00 PM i'd take the vette Jimster 09-16-2004, 08:10 PM Really, the GTO is basically a sedan, it's a Commodore with the back doors welded shut that's why the back seats can actually carry two adults, unlike other "four" seaters. That said, I'd take the GTO any day of the week, must be because I'm getting old...... freakonaleash1187 09-17-2004, 12:14 AM unlike most people, i like the looks of the GTO. but if you compare it to the c6, the c6 looks much better due to the european flare to it (i love european designs). so put great looks with great performance and you have a winner in my eyes. so i choose the vette. SSBigBlock 09-17-2004, 05:42 AM Thanks for the imput. I would like them both but I would rather have the older GTO's and the Older Vette's. I just love old muscle cars. vette_7t9 09-17-2004, 05:48 PM isnt the GTO only 365bhp? I would definately take the vette. Nimble, FASTER. kman10587 09-17-2004, 07:32 PM The 2005 GTO should have the same HP as the 2005 Corvette (400 bhp) since they will have the same engine, but Chevy might de-tune the GTO's engine (like they did to the LS1 in the Z28/Trans Am) to glorfiy the Corvette. Sticky 09-18-2004, 01:45 AM Even if they didn't detune it i'd take the corvette. For a little over ten grand more you get a coupe that people glorify as kids. I'm one of the few I know who thinks the GTO looks nice. SSBigBlock 09-18-2004, 07:06 AM I got those stats from Motor trend and they said that they both have the same engine. It was for the new buyers guide kman10587 09-18-2004, 01:03 PM Yes, they're both gonna get the new 6.0L pushrod V8 LS2 engine. GritMaster 09-18-2004, 04:49 PM They may have the same HP at the crank but what about at the Wheels? And Last I checked the GTO had less HP than the vette... wait maybe that was the 04.... I like the GTO's styling, it's simple kinda like the original and it serves it's purpose, the thing does get pretty good power and for a car that seats 4 adults not bad at all :P Prefer the vettes styling... 'cept it's butt.... YogsVR4 09-18-2004, 06:50 PM I thought GM only claimed to have detuned the LS1 for the TA. From the dynos I've seen, they were putting down identicle numbers. kman10587 09-18-2004, 07:47 PM I thought it was the same in both too, but since the Camaro/Trans Am make maximum power at 400 rpms lower than the Corvette, it makes sense that their maximum power is lower. RedLightning 09-19-2004, 09:44 PM http://www.newagegto.com/ ok, its 350hp for the 2004 gto and 400hp for the 05. kman10587 09-19-2004, 10:08 PM We're talking about the '05 GTO, which will get the same engine as the '05 Corvette. http://www.newagegto.com/05GTO.html 400 hp 395 torque, same as '05 Corvette. Jimster 09-19-2004, 10:14 PM My god, it just got uglier...... The Moaro was never meant to have hood scoops..... It's also interesting that it gets an LS2.... I wonder if that'll extend to the Vauxhall/Holden Monaro? kman10587 09-19-2004, 10:38 PM There are rumors that Chevy is going to bring back the Chevelle...do you think that they will, and if they do, will it get the LS2 as well? And how is all of this going to affect Corvette sales? GritMaster 09-20-2004, 01:15 AM Note to Chevy, try to make an attractive car if you're gonna bring it back. Seen the nomad? SSBigBlock 09-20-2004, 06:59 AM If there gonna bring back the CHevelle they better make it look a lot like the older Chevelle. I wish they would make the GTO look like the older GTo's vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
